On most cars, you need to change the neutral safety switch. this car has a neutral parking position sensor, you can find it for v6 not v8, it also fits a saab 9-3. it is the same thing, a different style. however, check the transmission fluid level and troublecodes for p07xxs. reset the code and use the transmission dipstick by dorman add lucas auto trans fluid, not stop slip to the fill line. most of the time it's not the solenoid, but the auto trans plate, overfilling the fluid can cause it to trigger a check engine light, and the fluid leaking onto it can cause it to be permanently damaged, it's more than $400 for the part. lucas works in the 722.xx transmissions, most , all, clks 99-2002, just make sure the tranny model isn't a 238. i like it better than atf 134. However, these parts are very heat sensitive. fill the trans fluid, reset the troublecodes, do a general motos drive cycle from obdii.com if it doesn't drive good after four times, change the neutral safety switch. :)

SOURCE: ML320 automatic is movig but not changing gears?

Yes it is possible since with the ml suvs and some of the c class of the same time frame, there is a few pcbs one horizontal and one vertical under the gearshit bezel, they ,I guess, communicate to the solenoid to pulse and actuate through the gears up and down through the gear shift range, possibly some moisture got into the shifter, a drink spilled or however, try spraying some contact cleaner or maf cleaner and hit it with a hair dryer on low heat, in a panic these can save your behind, just dont do any of these type of repairs with your battery connected....

My 2004 ptcruiser idles high and makes loud bang when I put it in gear

Manual transmission ... clutch worn. Automatic transmission ... that will happen if tickover is too high.
Fix the tickover issue, probably mass airflow sensor or air leak, then gears should sort themselves out.

The car has an automatic transmission and all of a sudden i had no reverse had no slipping or nothing the drive gears work fine no slipping grinding nothing shifts through all gears just fine

It may just need servicing/adjusting.

Your reverse gear is actually first gear ... when you select reverse another 'cog' fits into the toothed wheels to change the direction of first gear ... to give you reverse...

It may be a sticky valve or just a bit of adjustment (workshop job..) that is required.

What you can try ..

Start the car ... move the lever through all the positions several times (foot on brake..). Keep your foot on the brake and then put it in reverse and rev the car. Hard!

Try doing it several times.

An auto transmission works on valves opening and closing. Reverse gear - in comparison with the forward gears - is seldom used. The reverse valve can 'stick'. Try forcing it to open ... frighten it ... but keep your foot on the brake...

Is it normal for the revs to stay up when changing gear in a 2002 4x4 3.0L turbo diesel navara?

do they revs drop off when taking pressure off accelerator pedal when out of gear? if only staying high during gear change it would suggest a worn clutch friction/pressure plate so the engine isn't slowing down when clutch is depressed .I'd also have the OBD codes read to see if there is a sensor/switch at fault , but sounds like the clutch to me

My e 200 1998 merc automatic drive, having problem when shifing from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. Its take sometime to shift 3rd gear, do i need to overhaul the gear box?

yous should probably change the filter before you overhaul it because it is cheaper

to change you need

new filter and 2 gallons of trans fluid= $54

if you do it your self and that might solve the problem

Porsche 944 '86: reverse gear in automatic transmission is hard,

The transmission is worn. The cheapest fix is changing to a high quality synthetic fluid. This will allow for easier shifting when it is cold.

I own a 97 land rover disco with automatic transmission. It has great performance but sometimes the gear will not shift from the fist position for some time. One needs to drive for about two kms at high...

Have you tried flushing the auto box oil through, and changing the filters? Could be low pressure causing it to stay low until the temp comes up and it expands slightly.
