I was looking at buying a 2002 lancer the only problem is that they are saying it needs a solenoid for the transmission.

the 4.0L uses this solenoid to shift.

the engine size determines what transmission you get.
(max torque dictates that need, as does gas/diesel)

Sounds like the Torque Converter Solenoid. You need to get a fault code reader on this before you make a sound decision. Torque Converter Solenoid is one thing, a Torque Converter is quite another ($$$)!

run the fault codes
solenoids and servos do not operate unless they get a signal from the transmission ratio sensor , the Transmission control module or the VSS it will be revealed by a problem code

solenoid usually only have two connecter,it control by 5 V,u can use battery to make it 5 v & check the solenoid ,if it is click ,it is ok,if it is not click ,need a new one simple test.

15w-30 engine oil and ATF transmission oil probably an atf -4 oil
ring any automatic transmission shop for the oil specs
make sure that it is a genuine automatic transmission and not a cv transmission ( constant velocity )transmission as using ATF oil will destroy the belt and the transmission

check out your nearest mitsy wrecker for price,... and installation if they'll do it.

you can't put the transmission fluid in yourself on an auto or manual transmission for a 2002 lancer es. It has to be injected into the transmission through a nipple that is on the transmission.

get rid of the car while you can
