After a engine swap, from 01 engine to an 03 , the vehicle started on the first try and four other starts after that. accidentally left the key in the start position, when I came back to the vehicle the battery was dead, charged the battery yet the immobilizer light was flashing, can not start the car. Did the transponder in the key go bad, have checked all the fuse's, relays, the immobilizer is getting power as are the relays,I am at my wits end
Most likely your key has failed. You should find and try your spare key if you still have it. If not, then you will require someone with a tool to scan immobilizer codes and verify if there is a fault in the immo system or if it simply is saying INVALID KEY. If its faulted, it will require repairs. If its invalid key, you can use your backup key, or have a new key programmed by a mechanic or locksmith with key programming tools
thank's for the input, at this point in time, I only have one key, so my next choice is to get it to a shop. Is there a method to have the key checked, or to have a key made without taking the car to the shop ? Can I possible remove IMMO, CEM and ECM and swap the from a junk vehicle that also has the key?
The key can be checked with a good scantool. Basically insert the key and the tool will see it (or not) and then ask the computer if it sees it as a valid key. However since this requires a scantool, it also allowst he tech to scan for faults which do the same thing. If the key is the problem, there will be faults stored that say INVALID KEY in both the Engine Module and the Theft/PATS module. If you dont have a key that identifies as VALID, you will need 2 working keys (COmputer SEES a key but doesnt recognize it as valid) and an enhanced tool capable of key programming. There are a few on the market, but most cannot do this unless that feature is added in and only a few of the best known tools have the option.
Most mobile locksmiths can program a Ford key(s) with the equipment they have.
There are no easy bypasses for PATS issues. Its not simply a Starter disable, it turns off engine running as well. So even if you had a stickshift car and tried popstarting it with the theft light flashing...it would not start. (No fuel injection or spark allowed when theft lamp is on).
I cant stress enough, vehicle security is not a guessing game. The system will tell you exactly whats wrong, and it can easily be verified with proper equipment. Mailing the modules out when you havent pulled fault codes is pointless. What if there was a code for bad transponder ring, or network comm error between pcm and theft module? Power and ground and rebuilding is not gonna help. You need a volvo capable scantool to proceed. Anything else is guesswork.

If your key, is just a key, it has a transponder/chip. If it is a security key also(locks and unlocks doors), it has a battery in it. Check/replace the battery. Kelly is right on some points, But is talking about USA domestic cars. Your isn't. You need to have the codes read first before throwing money at it.
Testimonial: "Pulled four error codes P0600 and P0600 pending, P0036, P0261 pending and P0102 pending"
P0600 is your problem to start with. It is a communication/data code. Something in the security network is not sending or receiving a signal. It could be the ignition/key, The IP/BCM, the PCM, or wiring. First thing I would do it clear all the codes from all the computers. lock the vehicle down, all doors and hoods. Open the drivers door with the key and try to start. No start, I would read the codes again. P0600 is a generic code for security. Just means something went wrong. Like disconnecting the battery.
I will do as you suggested, about this time tomorrow I will have a yea or Na for you. It is a little after 8:00 here in Denver CO.
Randy, I did as you suggested, cleared the codes, locked the car down with the key, opened the driver's side door with the key, tried to start, will crank, still no start, the only code I got this time was P0036
one other thing I am getting power to my injectors, yet it seams that ECM is not sending the signal back to make the injectors spray

I pulled the IMMO and ECU, and sent them out with my only key to a company that can reprogram the IMMO and sync it to the ECU. Once the items returned with a new key, I connected them to my vehicle, the vehicle cranked over, where as before it would not. It will crank , but no start. after about a day and a half of troubleshooting, , this is what I came up with. Power in all the correct places, fuses/relays all good, fire to the plugs, 46psi at the fuel rail, crank no start,
Just as long as I spray starter fluid in the intake it will run. could this be a issue with the theft/pats module?
It could. Most systems won't let the injectors fire. pull an injector plug and check for B+. Then crank it over and check both wires with the test light and see if it flashes. If it does, then you have injectors problems, If it doesn't security is still set.
