Adjust the clutch linkage on a pontiac 2002 trans am 6 speed

Any chance clutch disc installed backwards?

Check the linkage at the transmission end

Have to pull the trans out

Completely disassemble it

Replace all the snychro rings for each gear

Also check any shift linkage or cable adjustment

Also replace all motor & transaxle mounts

as i understand the set up the hydraulic clutch needs no adjustment as is compensated for wear by the slave cylinder design hope this is of some help

no I don't think so , it is only the torque converter clutch engaging and disengaging due to engine load. if you want to test this. go on steady speed over 50 mph no gas pedal movement. touch lightly the brake pedal but not braking and release . during this see the rpm drop down and raise

Linkage on the trans needs adjusting to engage center fork link when springs are centered. Remove the boot over the shifter linkage to check adjustment.

It's hydraulic but it side mount trans so it has two cable that for thought fire wall under shifter to the linkage mine is gone bushing are shot and I've done slave cylinder 3 times in 3 months kinda becoming a pain as i just got car and has only 70 k miles and

if there is no pedal effort at all this is a hydralic system and you may have a leak.

The linkage cable before the trans should have an adjustment nut on it. This controls the fork assembly movement. adjust the linkage to remove the pedal free play and this will also tighten the clutch.

Ok, Clutch engagement point should be midway or just before midway in relation to total travel.(pretty much the same in any clutch vehicle) assuming that if put in lets say 1st gear, with clutch in,then engine started, when clutch is released, car does not move but there are no unusual noises (grinding from inside trans.) If this is the case, I'd first check linkage for adjustment. If OK, remove the trans and look inside for broken gears, excessive metal debris etc.If shift rails are internal it could be that shift forks are sliding on rails and failing to engage synchros.
