Daytime running lights relay for highlander

My situation is as follows - when the daytime running lights are on, the dashlights do not come on. However, when I turn on the parking lights or the headlights, the dashlight is on. The daytime running lights do come on during the day so the lamps are not burned out. There are three DRL relays numbered DRL 1, DRL 2, and DRL 3. How can I tell which is the bad one?

If you think it is a relay, swap them. My guess is that it is the BCM. Since the dash lights up with the the parking/head light switch. The head light switch over rides the BCM/ DRL controls.

Why would you want the dash lights on with the DRL's ? I wouldn't expect them to be on. You would only have dash lights when conditions require you to have your full lights on. I think you are looking for a fault that's not there. If this doesn't answer your question call the local dealer.

Testimonial: "Well, all I can say is that the dash lights used to be on when the DRL were on. Now they aren't. So, that tells me that there's something wrong somewhere."

OK, you didn't say the dash lights used to be on. Easiest way the test the relays is swap them around with others of the same type and pins and see what happens. If the dash lights are on with main lights the dash bulbs must be OK so check the fuse box and relays.

Just a thought, do the dash lights have a brightness adjustment?.

Yes, but I have checked that. Besides, the dash lights work fine when the headlights or parking lights are on. I don't know if it is related, but I have a Camry and a Yaris and their dash lights are on when I'm driving with the DRLs. 'tis indeed a mystery.

Why don't the daytime running lights on 2002 toyota highlander not come on?

There should be a DRL relay or module in the engine compartment. This relay gets power from the headlight switch and the gauges fuse. If the fuse were blown your gauges would be dead.
I would check the relay to see if it is working. You may need a shop manual to get the wiring diagram and test procedure.

My highlander's lights cant be turned off while the motor is running????

If your vehicle is equipped with daytime running lights, they will stay on with the engine running. It is a safety measure and can't be turned off.

Where is the Daytime driving Lamp relay located

follow the wires to the drl relay. It must be inline from the regular light switch to the headlamps. I have a 1990 Cadillac Deville that has an aftermarket module that controls the daytime running lamps, and it is mounted on the driver's side wheel well.

Some relays are found in the fuse box under the hood.

If your daytime running lamps burnt out, take it to an electrical shop and ask them to check it out.

If you buy an aftermarket daytime running lamp kit, they can install it for you.

But, I agree, you should check for voltage and function at the relay for the daytime running lamps on your Astro.

But, if all else fails, the electrical shop should be able to diagnose and repair this problem.

Headlights & dashlights turning on & off

Daytime running light module which is located under dash (around the area of the fuses) probably has a bad solder joint inside (if you take it apart). If not could be bad connection on one of the switches (like your dimmer switch)

Need full time daytime running lights

Just hard wire the lights into anything that is hot when the car is running. If your looking for some kind of alternate solution please let me know. Also did you want them on also when the headlights are off? You can also hard wire them with a switch inside the cab and that way you can flip the switch whenever you would like.
Thank you,
