You would need to use a Tailors Tape Measure(the cloth type)and go around all the pulleys except whatever you want to bypass.what ever measurement you come up with,that will be the length belt you now need in inches.then go to the parts house and ask them to look up the original belt for you vehicle so you can get the correct RIB(GROOVE)belt.then tell them the measurement you came up with to get the correct length belt.

That is not the way to fix it. You remove the AC Pump and install a bypass pulley. It keeps the same belt, route and tension.

Can I bypass the AC compressor pulley with a shorter belt?

Yes, this is possible. However, unless it was the AC compressor clutch and pulley which failed, bypassing the AC pulley is unnecessary. Simply disconnect the wire to the AC compressor clutch and that should do the trick.

What is the belt routing for 5.4 w/o ac? my truck has ac but compressor locked up. can I just by-pass the ac?
yes a shorter belt will be ok . mostly the alternator can be used for adjustment. you will have to measure the length with a cord and get a belt to match.

My ac comressor froze up on my 95 chevy lumina,3.1 and i am trying to bypass it for right now until i can afford a new ac comp,how do i figure out what length of serpintine belt i need to do so?
Use a piece of string to run the routing of the belt, bypassing the AC compressor. Measure the string and you have the correct length.
