How do I reset anti-theft on a 1996 Ford Mustang after replacing the ignition?

Ignition what ? Switch ,Ignition lock cylinder ? New keys ? do they have the transponder pellet in the head. Do you have a security lit flashing when trying to start the vehicle ?

Special Tool(s) > New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester or equivalent

This procedure is also useful when programmed ignition key(s) have been lost or the ignition switch assembly has been replaced, and it is desired to erase key(s) from the passive anti-theft system (PATS) memory.

NOTE: If additional keys are to be programmed, refer to Key Programming - Program a Key Using Two Programmed Keys. If the remaining keys are with the customer and are not available with the vehicle, then instruct the customer to refer to the Owners Guide under the "Programming Spare [SecuriLock Ā® (North America), Safeguard Ā® (U.K.) or PATS for all other markets] Keys Procedure" for instructions on programming the remaining keys.
  1. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
  1. Enter New Generation STAR/Service Bay Diagnostic System (NGS/SBDS). Follow the SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE to obtain security access.
  1. From NGS/SBDS menu, select IGNITION KEY CODE ERASE.
  1. NOTE: Do NOT select any additional commands from this menu.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF and disconnect NGS.
  1. Insert the first encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to RUN for three seconds.
  1. Insert the second encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to RUN for three seconds.
  1. The vehicle should now start with both ignition keys.

I WANT TO CHANGE THE KEY BARRELS OF MY 1996 ESCORT MK6 18 DESIEL. IF POSSIBLE I DO NOT WANT TO USE FORD'S KEY BARRELS BECAUSE THEY WEAR ALOT. CAN I FIT ANOTHER BRAND THAT ARE MORE DURABLE?

There are a couple different brand names of aftermarket key lock cylinders. LOCKSMART has one for auto transmission and for manual transmission. Part Number LC65620 For the auto, Part Number LC65580 for manual. These are available through Autozone and O'Reilly's. BORG WARNER has makes these also The part numbers are the same. (These are avilable through O'Reilly's and Advance Auto. It may be helpful to let you know that these are probably all manufactured by the same manufacturer that makes the MOTORCRAFT (Ford) cylinders. They just sell to different distributors, who put their names on them.

Note that these are the part numbers for the key and tumbler assembly only. The complete ignition switch assembly ( tumbler, barrel, switch ) is also available through these same suppliers.

Car was stolen ignition was ripped out of 2002 grandam, now car won't start with ignition and security light keeps flashing

groan.....gunna need a bit more info. but i'll try. What portion of the ignition was ripped out? The tumbler + switch? If so, you might need to get the car's system resent to recognize that it has a new ignition put in. Sime vehicles have a theft prevention system in place to prevent the vehicle from running if its been hot wired. Your best bet would be to replace the damaged ignition components (You did not mention if you did or not). If it still doesn't work after you have replced all of the ignition components. You can try to reset the vehicle (doesn't work on all) disconnect negative battery terminal and go back into vehicle and press down the brake pedal for about 30 seconds then reconnect battery and try it....good luck, hope this helps

I need to take out old ignition lock cylinder without key on 1989 toyota camry le -lost keys-bought locksmart replacement but it says old has to be in acc position to remove-

This is what the tech manual says.....

Ignition Lock/Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle. CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Section 6.
  2. Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
  4. Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
  5. Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.). NOTE: On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
  6. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
  7. To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing. To install:
  8. Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
  9. Secure the switch with its screw(s).
  10. Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
  11. Install the steering column covers and connect the ignition switch wiring.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

Key fob malfunction

The fab key it self may be bad at the unlock switch it self and the fab key needs to be replaced. You can try to reset the fab lock if you like and see if that addresses the issue.
Important
Once the Keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter could possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

Perform the following steps:
Sit in the vehicle driver's seat. (actually it’s much err from the front pass seat)
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the vehicle's doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Electronic Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder OFF, then back to ACC within 1 second.
Open and then close any vehicle door. You will hear a chime when the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode. If you do not hear a chime, start again at step 1.

Important
After 7 seconds, you may hear a chime confirming successful synchronization. After approximately 14 seconds, you will hear a chime confirming successful programming.

Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
Repeat step 8 in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse back into the fuse panel. Refer to Electrical Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Validate that all the transmitters that were programmed operate properly. Refer to Keyless Entry System Operation

Good luck and hope this helps. If you have problems you can try asking the service department at the dealer where you bought the car or where you have the car serviced. Simple things like this most of the time will not cost much and may even be free of charge if you have a good relationship with them.
Good luck and hope this helps.

I need instructions on how to put a locksmart switch ingnition

Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the steering column shroud by removing the four or five self-tapping screws. Remove tilt lever (if so equipped).
  1. Remove instrument panel lower steering column cover.
  1. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  1. Rotate ignition key lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  1. Remove the two screws retaining ignition switch.
  1. Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.
Installation
  1. Adjust the ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the switch RUN position. NOTE: A new replacement switch assembly will be set in the RUN position as received.
  1. Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the RUN position. The RUN position is achieved by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the LOCK position.
  1. Install the ignition switch into the actuator. It may be necessary to move the switch slightly back and forth to align the switch mounting holes with the column lock housing threaded holes.
  1. Install retaining screws. Tighten to 5.6-7.9 Nm (50-69 lb-in).
  1. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch.
  1. Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper function, including START and ACC positions. Also, make certain that the column is locked in the LOCK position.
  1. Install instrument panel lower steering column cover.
  1. Install the steering column trim shrouds and tilt lever (if so equipped).
