How do i fix a rough idle and stall?

Car sat for 2 years, does not run at idle in park unless you hit the accelerator the whole time.... occasionally backfires. Once the engine warms up, you can idle it in park, but not Drive/Reverse. Vehicle stalls at every redlight, or when driving less than 10 mph. I basically have to be holding my foot on the gas when i shift from neutral to drive, or it will stall. P0300, p0301, p0302 are the codes it runs. never 0303 or 04.

Hi Cody:
I'd be checking all of the vacuum hoses and the PVC valve.
Also it wouldn't hurt to put some fuel conditioner like SEAFOAM through it.
My approach tends to be to make sure the basics are looked after before starting to second guess for major problems.
Cheers.

I've used injector cleaner, and replaced the spark plugs... no apparent vacuum leaks.

    Hi Cody:
    2 more suggestions then,
    1) Take it out for a good long drive, and don't be overly gentle on the throttle. Sometimes it takes a while tfor the engine to get used to running again.
    2) History - Review how it had been running prior to the 2 year vacation.
Might be an idea to pull the PVC valve and clean it. Make sure it rattles and is not gummed up.

Pvc is stuck closed...sprayed brake cleaner through it... no fluid came out the other side

    "AHA" he said.
Could be the clue you're looking for.
Stuck open would result in a vacuum leak which would cause lean mixture at idle, resulting in engine stop.
There should be a high vacuum at idle, which would draw crankcase vapour in through the PVC. Stuck closed at idle may be resulting in too rich a mixture.
When you changed the plugs, were they sooty fouled (too rich) or dry & "burnt" (too lean)?
What happens to your idle when you disconnect the PCV valve?
    Time to play detective!

95 saturn strn with automatic transmission running really rough and stalling when I stop. what should I do I

Hi Duane:
Think I'll "shoot from the hip" on this one.
Just for the fun of it, check the pcv valve and the related vacuum lines.
The auto choke when cold means running rich and the fast idle is OK. When it warms up it wants to run lean and it sounds like it might be too lean. PCV or vacuum leak may be the problem.
It also would be a reasonable idea to to a carb flush and to add a conditioner like SEA FOAM to help clean things up if the fulel gelled while it was parked.
Hope this helps.

Idles roughly, then low when stopped or in park, then dies. Decreasing gas mileage. Slow to accelerate

Sometimes that's caused by a vacuum leak near the manifold area.

Sometimes air in the coolant will cause an idle problem. Air will keep the air temp sensor from sending proper info.
Hope this helps.

2001Buick Park Avenue occasionally running rough

You personally can not test an ecm

Very few professionals attempt that,
as it doesn't fail often & it takes very little
to smoke one, trying to test something you
know little about even with wiring diagrams

Do you not take the car in a couple times

2000 Ford Escort zx2 runs rough and stalls in reverse

The Ford Escort ZX2, the 2.0 liter is a interference engine,The valve and the piston kissed each other as they met with a broken timing belt,Just to let you know a cam position sensor does not create rough idle, it can stall the engine at a stop sign, but the solution is a valve job, and who ever put the timing belt on after the job should have done a cylinder effeciency test.

Rough idle in park occasionally and while driving seems to shutter has stalled a few times

Your ignition coil might be bad. If it is happening after it rains, check the distributor for moisture. My ignition coil went bad on my 98 jetta.

If you replace the ignition coil, it runs rough for a little bit and it needs to sync. Just drive it around a little bit and it should steady out. If it doesn't take it to a mechanic.

Good luck.
