SOURCE: Turn signal does not flash right or left. Where is flasher unit?
yes it is the same. the problem is most likely the turn signal switch which is located on the steering column. be sure to check all fuses, relays, and bulbs first. keep me posted thanks
SOURCE: Constant clicking from flasher unit
The flasher unit has gone bad and needs to be changed. The flasher module is a part of the hazard module also. The clicking is the unit is still working but there is not enough voltage to activate the lights to flash. It's common on the Malibu's and other GM product cars similar to the Malibu like Grand Am's Ect. I believe Auto Zone has the replacement part for you car and is more reasonable in price then the dealer and the y also have the step by step instructions to replace the flasher module. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

Sounds like the flasher unit to me. Normally the emergency flasher and turn signal are separate.
SOURCE: 99 Chevy Tahoe... Rear turn signals, brake lights, and hazards
I had this problem, and to be honest, it happened to the left side about a week later...it's the board that the bulbs plug into...it's a very common problem with this model. So popular that you can normally get the socket board off the shelf at a parts store! it's extremely simple to replace, and I replaced all the bulbs at the same time!
