SOURCE: how to change water pump

Well, waterpump on your car is internal inside the timing chain area, being driven by the timing chain. You need to remove drive belts, the small black side covers, that are screwed into the front engine cover. The left on has the chain tensioner, the right one has the water pump behind it. Once the covers are removed, you need to push the timing chain tensioner inside and put a pin inside of it (tensioner ) to hold it in. Once you have done that, you need to rotate the engine counterclockwise (until you feel tension) to loosen the chain around the water pump. Then you will use 2 bolts (6mm and about 2 inches long) and screw those into the water pump body. This will pull the pump out of the engine, so pretty much the bolts are going to be acting as puller device to remove pump out of engine. reverse install procedure. This is not the easiest of repairs and not for a novice or someone, that doesn't really work on cars. Good luck.

SOURCE: when to change timing belt

Maximas had a timig belt until 1994. Some Maximas from 1992-1994 had chains also, but only the VE30DE models. All VG30 models had timing belt. Since 1995 all maximas (A32, A33, A34 the all new A35) have timing chains and the rarely/never fail. In fact in my 12+ years with nissan, I have't seen/replaced single timing chain in a Maxima, so pretty bullet proof setup and I have had few of those cars and have one right now. Awesome cars, by the way, just keep up with the oil changes and it will run forever. One of my Maximas had 245000 miles, when I was selling it and I still see it on the road here and there. BULLET PROOF engines.

SOURCE: how do I change the spark plugs of my 1996 nissan maxima

Using an Allen/Hex key tool, remove the cover to gain access to spark plug holes. This engine has coils at each plug, so after unplugging the electrical connection, you can use either a Phillips screwdriver or an 8mm socket on an extension to remove the 2 screws securing each coil. Pull out the coil and then use a 5/8" spark plug socket on a 6" extension to remove each spark plug. Gap the new plugs to .040" and apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads. Install each plug, slowly at first, so as not to cross-thread it. Torque the plugs to 18 lb/ft. Apply some dielectric grease to the inside of the spark plug boots and re-install the coils. Plug them all back in and re-install the covers. You're done!

I am about to have my water pump changed on my 1996 Nissan Maxima. If there is water in my oil what other problem could it be beside the water pump? Thanks, Sandie

I just had to changed my water pump today. Its not the difficult for person handy with tools and a common sense demeanor for cars. Unfortunately, if its not the water pump, then its most likely the Head Gasket.

Does your oil look milky or foamy? If so go to next...

Do you see water with antifreeze dripping under your cars motor near the passenger front tire? "If so, then its most likely your Water Pump Problem"

If not, then its your head gasket!

Do i need to change my timing chain when i change my water pump on a 96 nissan maxima?

Not necessarily. You should at least consider it if you are close to a major service milestone (90k, 120k, etc.). It is a lot of work to change the timing chain (belt), but you have to do some of the work anyway to replace the water pump.

1996 Nissan Maxima. Timing issue.

Have a mechanic check that. If you try yourself, might competely mess up the entire timing.
