I can't get my 1997 cadillac deville to start. It has been sitting for a couple of years with no activity

"Crank" to me means turn over.
"Fire" means actually try to run.
If it won't crank and you have a new battery and starter, I'd be checking the terminal connections, wires, cround connection, and solenoid. If all of those are good then we need to start checking the engine condition. Recently running or sitting for 5 years and full of rust?

More than likely o2 sensor has oxidation or rust on it. replace.

Sounds like the theft deterrent system (VCD module) is activated or faulty. If you are using the correct transponder key, you can try disconnecting the battery for several minutes and then reconnecting it - all systems in the car should reset. If they don't, you may have fried the VCD module when you charged the battery - a bit late, but a battery in a Cadillac should never be recharged while connected to the car.

Are you saying it won't crank, or won't start ?
And have you checked the alternator output when the engine is running ?

There is a check valve inside the fuel pressure regulator that can leak off the necessary fuel pressure to start the engine quickly. Have it tested or just replace it.

More often than not it is the fuel pump, especially with sitting for a couple years, hopefully empty if not try and get out as much of the old gas as possible when you replace the pump.

check power steering fluid, if that is ok then the power steering unit may need replacing

could be bad compression get it checked

I recently had the same problem, I ended up changing the TWO crank shaft sensors and the big 40 Amp fuse under the hood. Everythings fine now. Hope this helps.

Try to reset the p.c. by unpluging the batt. for 10 min that should do the trick.
