I had my car towed in on July 10,2009 to an auto shop to have the starting problem I mentioned before checked. They told me the starter was "fried" and that it needed replacing. I drove the car from the repair shop with the NEW starter the same day. Car drove fine,no starting problems.Car started fine,on July 11, 2009. Heard that 1 second squeak cound from ignition switch, when I started the car.Went shopping.Drove car about 4 hours. After I came back from shopping,I went home parked car.I went to go out the same evening of July 11, 2009.The car did the identically same thing.Would not start. No sound hear from the solanoids when turning the ignition switch.Everything else in car working fine just like before.Let car sit for about 3 hours.Went back out to try to start car.Car did start. They told me they placed a refurbished starter in my car.Is there anything else they can check? I take it back to them this morning. I thought I smelled something burning around the steering column about 1 hour after driving the car when I picked it up on July 10th. Could I have a wire burning. I did ask them was everything else ok on the car.I asked did they do a diagnostic check. They said there was no need, because they checked my started and it was not working.I also went to AutoZone July 8th.They said the battery, starter was fine. But, the car was running.I went back inside about 20 minutes after they checked it.Came back out to leave and the car would not start.I told them, they said the starter was not receiving any power.I sat for about 2-3 hours in my car, turned the ignition switch over, the car started.I drove home.Went back out on July 9th am, car would not start.Made appointment for repair at local auto shop, car was towed in, starter replaced and currently car wont turn over again.Note:power windows/radio has power for about 20 seconds, after ignition switch is turned in off position, even after key is pulled out.Is that normal? It's been that way for months.

We have a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000 gt 5 speed and was told the ecm and starter are bad but could be a ground wire. How do we check this and how do you replace ecm?

First thing is to check the cheapest bit first. The ground wire (earth wire) was mentioned and as this wire controls all the electronics I would spend time ensuring that it is in good condition . tight and fixed to a clean -non-rusted --surface . Ensure battery terminals and posts are shiny clean and tight . Now if the battery has a dead cell then it indicates a starter problem. However a simple test with a load tester on the battery will show up where the problem may be.. Lastly the ECM may be tested at an auto electrical shop or tested with a known reliable spare replacement unit

The lights and all the electrical come on but the car wont start or turn over and the battery is good

The start solenoid or the start has gone bad, start with the simple and check thee wire harness to the start and if all looks good, Try giving the start a tap with a hammer and then try starting the engine. This may get the starter one more start so you can get it to a shop and have the starter replaced without getting it towed to save you some money. IF your tight funds, you can pick up a starter at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instruction to replacing the starter and can also check your starter to see if it only needs a solenoid. Good luck and keep me posted.

Is there any other suggestion(to have checked) you have regarding my 2003 camry starting problem before I have it towed again today for service?I just spoke with the repair shop this morning and they...

Yes you can have them use an ohm meter to test the relay integration switch to make sure that power is going through it. That being said, the fact that they can tap the solenoid on the starter and it works to get the car started makes be think that the starter has gone bad again. It doesn't make sense that you replaced it just 3 days ago and it needs to be replaced again. To me, that means that the starter you got was bad and there should be some sort of warranty for that, even 90 days, and it should be covered under that for a new starter for free. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!

First my ba

try disconnecting your battery ground for 30 seconds and see if your check engine light goes away. If not, i'm sorry to say but its gonna have to get scanned, it could be coincidentally so many things.
