4 X 4 Button does not Work
SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Blazer 4 wheel drive
The four wheel drive systems in these vehicles are simple. The push button controls the four wheel drive computer. The computer tells the encoder motor (on transfer case) to shift. When the transfer case shifts there is a vaccum switch on the transfer that is activated which sends vaccum to the accuator under the battery. The accuator pulls a cable to lock the front axle in. This covers all s series trucks and suv's with push button four wheel drive but not with auto or all wheel. Now to answer some questions. If your push button is lit up but will not go in to four high you should try to reset the four wheel drive computer. To reset pull the courtesy light and atc fuses for sixty seconds install fuses then cycle key on and off 5 times. If your transfer case shifts but your front end does not lock in check for vaccum at the switch on the transfer case in and out. If no vaccum out replace switch motormite number 49315 at parts store. If you have vaccum out check accuator.

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!

I just fixed a friend of mines 96 yukon...shift to neutral press 4H and u can hear the actuator make noise (we even replaced it with a new one his idea and the same thing happen as old one), so as he hit the switch for 4H i layed under it (on 4 jack stands) and I could hear the motor on the transfer case make a loud noise (well thats working) and before all this I asked him did u check all your fuses (he said guarnteed to be all good) one night it was bothering me so i looked through the owner manual for the yukon and in the fuse box on driver side by the door there are (2) fuse for the 4wheel drive unit, pull one of the fuses good...pulled the other one and it was blown put in a new fuse and it works like brand new..pull fuse for anything that has to do with 4 wheel drive componants,
