The problem is that an electrical component in the BMW that should be dormant when the vehicle is shut down is actively drawing power.
The only way to track it down is to have tests run to see which circuit is drawing excessive power because there are numerous components that might be the cause.
some cars ECU will go into limp mode when power is removed it has to relurn your driving habits also some need to be reset after a flat battery. contact the makers for more info
I would look at the fuses and fuseable links, and check the output of the alternator. If you disconnect the battery you can check the battery for a dead cell, and check the major circuits for a draw with everything turned off.
What could be draing the battery? A lot of different sources on your vehicle can cause a parasitic drain on the battery . Your vehicle has at least 10 different electronic control modules (computers ) on board . Any one of these not powering down could cause your problem . Plus there are other things too . Testing would need to be done to find the problem .Takes knowledge of electrical circuits an systems to diagnose these type problems . Hello, When you install a different Battery, make sure it is charged to 13.2V-!3.6V. The problem you are having is in a lot of Ford products. It is a combination of the Anti-theft and the Battery Minder. Even with a jump-charge or a Battery charger attached while the engine runs, once you disconnect the boost, the charging circuit will cutout within 3 minutes. People have stalled at 70MPH with a dead Battery.
In the older Models what you describe would be a lazy Voltage Regulator. But with the Models with a Battery Minder, a drain on the system disconnects the power even if the drain is the running engine. Also check the wires coming off of the Alternator; sometimes if there is a metal line, the wire can chaff and discharge and trigger the other problems.
Would appreciate knowing what finally fixed this problem for you.
If it's a powered subwoofer yes. Powered subs draw alot of power, and if you wired it direct, yes it can drain your battery down. You need to wire it to a source that is powered only when key is on.
alternator gone bad, 100%. as the voltage starts dropping, all the lights on the dash will go crazy because the electronics cannot perform their self diagnostics, as they do not have sufficient voltage.
Jump start the vehicle, remove jumper cables and see if the battery will charge... if battery does not charge then either battery is bad or alternator is not charging the battery.
Check for corroded and/or loose connections.
Also, after the vehicle starts, look for interior lamps or other power consuming equipment that may have inadvertently left on, causing the power to be drained from your battery.
