You likely have good hearing, and there is water there.
First, where it came from:
Most likely is a repair job by a body shop that is defective.
They may have repaired the damage from a collision cosmetically, but left some holes or gaps so water come come in when it rains, or if you drive through puddles, etc.
Another answer is the car was in a flood, and has water collected from being submerged, at least in that area.
To fix it, you can take it to a body shop, and they can repair this, though it may cost you quite a bit pf money.
You could also take an electric drill with a metal cutting bit of about 1/4 inch, and make a "weep" hole at the lowest point to keep it draining all the time.
I have done both of these fixes many times.
God bless your efforts.

would the weep hop hole bring in salted snow/water into the trunk and promote rust. though?

After it rains water is in trunk Nissan Altima

When diagnosing a water leak, here's a handy tip. Check the accumulated water. If the water is dirty, look for leaks from the underside of the vehicle (floor, wheelwells, etc). If the accumulated water is clean, look for leaks from the topside of the vehicle (trunk seal, window seal, etc). To find where the water is coming from, shut yourself in the trunk with a flashlight and have an assistant run water over the trunk with a garden hose. You may have to remove some of the interior trunk trim to see exactly were the water is coming from, but chances are you'll find it. Also another common cause of water leaks are from impact damage, so check for collision damage repair. while your in there. -hope this helps.

I have a 1998 Nissan Altima and water is leaking on the inside on

You probably have a clogged drain for the evaporator. The evaporator would have to be removed youmay have to have a professional perform this.

Water leak inside the car

Whats causing this is that the drain hose for the evaporator is clogged and overflowing into the car. what has to be done is get under the car and find the drain hose, which is going to be on the passengers side of the car by the firewall, and get either compressed air and blow into the hose to try to free the blockage
