if it wont turn over 1st check the ground s on the car and the battery 1st. your battery can be fully charged and the car will not start even over night this can happen. then look at the starter. Note: if you have over 109K on the car and the timing belt has never been replaced you will need to have this checked as well.
you meant, car will not run right (unsaid)
so i unplugged the MAP sensor (forcing limp home mode)
when was last time car had fresh fuel.
when was last time car was a daily driver?> last week, last year?
by removing the map the limphome goes huge rich state.
so id say , the engine is in a very lean state and going to limphome
hides this situation.
why not post full symptoms , with all parts back on engine.
did do the 60k mile , tune up yet? if the cam belt snaps, say good by to a good engine. (boom) Timing belt, sparks and filters.?
1: cranks ok.?
2: wont start
3: is it flooding? or starving for fuel. spark plug tips dry or wet.
if spark is good all cylinders, (no engine option stated) then
i check timing, if off the belt (cam) slipped.
if the engine is flooding i do the flooding tests.
if its to lean i do the lean tests.
ASK .
for the lean test i check the ECT , then fuel pressure.
the fuel pressure is 10 tests on a V6.
I can also test the MAP in 5min with a voltmeter, to see if its right.
here is the list ,
Good voltage 12vdc to the EFI starting and running.
Good engine, spec compression,
good spark and timed correctly if, off its the cam belt slipped,
good fueling,
there are simple tests for each.
i also make sure the EGR is not stuck open on all cars with this.
and that the ISC is not dead.(stuck and dirty)
why ignore the CEL??????
you cross over the spark wires. lost firing order.
its not PVC but is due.
sure, lost spark, lost spark time, crossed wire.
if spark is good try test fuel
clean the EGR, if it sticks open car will never idle fast.
and will stall.
clean the ISC do the ECU can in fact now control idle.
you are are on track, most here are not.
you did a tune up, that is good , and is first.
bad fuel, car parked for year, dead?
now the 1 question, (after it runs)
can your happy right off save the stall
only this counts..... 1st....
check firing order now that wires are scrambled.
then check for spark on all 4 cyl spark wire ends.
then if spark is good,
and compression, good, 150 not 80psi
you do know this is and inteference engine right? and if not
fresh timing belt the engine will grenade. for sure.
dont listen to dorks telling you, mine didnt, they are idiots.
if you like Russian roulette ? and $3000 new motors are joy?
then skip the belt.
that finishes off a 60k turn up, spark , filters and da belt.
then spark timing.
then fueling.
all the fuel in the world is useless on a dead motor or dead spark'.
fueling is last.
if motor and spark are good, then yes, fueling
try test fuel (spary)
if that works for duration of spray
then check fuel pressure
that be next.
and more... ask
I owned the SAME CAR. Love it except when the Distributor went south. You can not tell if the spark is good enough... you can have a Spark on the outside but the compression will require a much stronger spark.
If they put the Distributor in wrong, then you will have an issue.
IF the Timing Belt was moved, then you are going to be fighting this for a while. Best to Start from Scratch with a Good Mechanic and see where it leads you.
If you spray Ether into the Air Box, does the car start? No Start, you have a SPARK ISSUE. STARTS, you have a Fuel Deliver Issue
THE DISTRIBUTOR's are KNOWN to be defective,... Mine was intermittent but when I finally dropped the $225 on a distributor, all of my problems went away.
Did they cross the Spark Plug wires and that is causing your issue? Check the Firing Order.
How many miles are on it? Have you changed timing belt? Was there any symptoms prior to non starting? Pull a spark plug see if you are getting spark. If not it is probably coilpack on distributor have it tested. Common problem I have had experienced with civics.
I HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH MY 1994 CHEVY LUMINA VAN. I WAS TOLED IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. BUT I CHANGED THE COMPUTER WERE I BOUGHT THE FIRST ONE (auto zone) AND CHANGED GAS TO SHELL, THEY HAVE A NEW ADDITIVE IN THEIR GASOLINE AND IT RAN GREAT. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND IS STILL RUNNING NOW BETTER THAN EVER.
well not completely sure but would suggest first giving it a shot of ether in the airbox to see if starts better. to rule out a fuel issue. then ck into distributor. have you ck'd it for spark? is it weak? is it possible the timing belt jumped time?
