Horn and steering wheel controls not working.

The steering wheel controls and horn stopped working after i installed a new rack and pinion, i flushed the power steering system removed old unit, installed new and when i was going to the alignment shop the horn did not work or the radio controls. I think i must have knocked a harness loose but i have no idea where to look.

2002 mazda mpv rack & pinion replaced and steering wheel controls and horn no longer work. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the reel cord under the steering wheel, on the steering column broke. Without the rack and pinion engaged to the steering column, the steering wheel spins freely if spun intentionally or accidentally. If so, the reel cord containing wiring and circuits, reel cord is damaged by such action.

My horn isn't working on a Chevy equinox but it's a new horn. What could be wrong with it..and my cruise control don't qork. Is it my steering wheel?

Was Cruise Control working before the New Horn was installed? The power supply to the Horn, (input to ground wire) is connected to the Cruise Control Module (CCM). This CCM is wired to the Relay Switch Box located in the Engine Bay. The Relay Box cover will have a Chart indicating what function each Relay coresponds to. Your local autoparts store (AutoZone) can test the Relay Switch, and you'll know (if any Relay) need to be replaced.

The CCM is also wired to the Steering Wheel, but first passes through the Clock Spring Coil, located just behind the Steering Wheel. The Clock Spring allowes for the Function Buttons on the Steering Wheel to have power while Steering Wheel spins.

The Clock Spring can malfunction or break, its rare, but this will cut power to the Function Buttons on Steering Wheel. If ALL the buttons on Steering Wheel dont work, then the Clock Spring is the Culprit. The Coil may need to be replaced.

The Cruise Control Module itself may have failed and also would cause a few or all Steering Wheel Functions to quit working.

But first check the Relay Switch Box and examine the Harness Cables connecting (Steering Wheel--to--CCM--to--Relay Switch Box--to--Battery Supply).

Also if Cruise Control was working before the new Horn was installed and now not working, then most likely the Problem is a bad wire connection somewhere and/or is a faulty Relay.

Recently replaced the rack & pinion, which require, of course me to disengage the steering column. now the horn doesn't work?? Does work w/ key remote and alarm but not on the steering wheel???

What kind of vehicle? Is the air bag light on? You may have damaged the clock spring if the steering shaft has been rotated out of synch with the clock spring

Changed rack and pinion. when turning wheel to right horns started blowing. unplugged airbags and horn stopped. drove truck for 1 day now wont start and dome light is blinking and warning lights on dash...

It sounds like you disturbed the wiring or the connector inside the lower portion (inside the cabin, under the dashboard) of the steering column. You may have also pinched wiring higher inside the steering column, up near the horn button. You'll need to track it all down & correct the wiring problems in (and around) the steering column.

the horn problem could be a fuse or faulty horn most likely the fuse. airbag light could be a faulty relay or fuse. crunching sound in steering could be a sign of faulty rack and pinion good luck

Had the rack and pinion replaced on my 2004 toyota sienna van b/c the power steering rack was leaking. Picked up the car and left for a trip. Cruise control and horn not working. I know the horn was...

while replacing a rack on any car with a airbag made into the steering column you have to make sure the steering wheel does not move while changing out the rack.......if it moves buy itself or lets just say someone was to move it for a joke and it gets out of position and after you put everything back together and turn the steering all the way the wires in the spiral cable will stretch and break...i have seen this happen all the time when you are working on the steering system....the spiral cable will turn 2.5 turns in each direction when you are installing a new one and if it is installed .5 to 1 turn out then when you drive the car and turn the wheel lock to lock the wires are going to stretch and break.....i would have to say that whoever installed the rack has caused all of your other problems and if it was the company i work for they would take care of it for you...i hope that this info was helpful and if i can help you in any other way let me know and if you would also let me and fixya know if i was of any help to you and a comment and a comment would be appreciated...thanks and good luck...have a blessed day......

I have a 1998 plymouth voyager, and i just replaced the rack n pinion, and now my airbag light is on, my horn, and cruise controls on the steering wheel dont work.

behind the air bag is what is called a clock spring, it supplies power to all of those functions, chances are when the rack n pinon was replaced the steering wheel was not locked and it turned too many times, and it broke the connection behind there. so chances are you will need a clock spring. if you had it done at a repair shop I would bring it back and have them repair it.

We just had it repaired. They replaced the rack

clock spring in the steering causes this problem. check the steering or may ask the same mechanic to check it.
