Give us video you trying to start so I can listen to it.does your dash lights go dim when you try to start if they do you have bad earth.a lot of mechanics don’t realise you must clean both terminals when fitting new battery that’s on the battery so there not dull as that is bad contact straight away.also do the same to both your battery terminals

Battery just about dead with loose connection alternator wasnt able to charge it so it ran down --recheck connections are tight and get a boost to start or charge it for a couple hrs than have battery tested to make sure no damage (dead cell) most auto stores will do this for free

When i turn the key all power is lost. i wait 5 seconds and the power comes back but every time i turn the key it dies again.

Check your battery terminals and make sure they are clean by removing and lightly sanding with some rough sand paper (wipe down when finished), also the wires/cables going to them, they should not move when tightened on terminals. Also clean and tighten the negative (earth) cable/wire and if you have easy access check to see if the main starter motor lead is tight, be careful if you need to tighten it as you can short out the positive (starter motor lead) with the negative (anywhere on car thats metal 95% of it). You have poor connection somewhere which is causing your problem.

I have a 1998 olds 88 the power windows and power seats stopped working and it cranks but will not start.

Some of these cars have a double positive battery cable at the battery if it is like that remove the cables and clean them and reinstall them if they won't tighten good enough you can add a washer between them to get them to tighten down. There is a round block of lead between them that gets smashed down over time that causes them to not tighten up if it looses power on one cable that feeds the cars ignition and other things like power seats and windows it will still crank over but not start.

If your dure its a loose battery connection simple get a rachet with the correct size socket and tighten it up off the battery posts and starter terminals. Word to the wise disconnect the positive battery cable first while then tighten the ones I already mentioned and tighten the positive cable off the post last.
