05 jaguar when drive gear stuck in 2 - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

My 2005 S-Type was stuck in reverse but the gear stick was stuck in park. After taking the console apart trying to figure out why the shift lock wouldn't open...three hours later I got under the car and discover that one of the two bolts that held the transmission cable in place was missing...I replaced it and that was all it took.

on the gear selector plate on the centre console you will see a star
sort of shape turn that it should do it unless something is stuck in its path underneath . don't forget to depress brake pedal

The jaguar gears get stuck normally if you're parked on an incline. Its a default Jaguar will not acknowledge. rock the car back and forth a couple times and it will shift. Hope this helps good luck!

It sounds like a bad shift indicator switch on the shifter. Kind of a pain in the *SS to get to those console's get real brittle.

Most likely the lock out switch at the brake pedal is at fault, because in order to put it in in to any gear you have to step on the brake first ! Their is a switch located which prevents you put it in gear with out stepping on the brake pedal, so check this switch first.

NEEDS TRANSMISSION FRONT DRUM BROKEN

ALWAYS engage the Parking Brake BEFORE putting car into "Park". When you want to get out of "Park", put your foot on the brake pedal, move gear shifter into desired gear, THEN take down Parking Brake. If you get stuck (gear shifter doesn't move), then try the "rocking" method (recruit 1 or 2 folks to push your car from behind while you try to move gear shifter into desired gear). Good luck!

not sure about this ,,,but i would be inclined to chock drive wheels ,handbrake on and with a wire from positive battery terninal re start the car by touching the small terminal on the starter motor do not rev engine whilst doing this or it will drive off on its own.and see what happens ,,but i doubt if you can move gearchange as it sounds like the cable from the brake pedal to the gear linkage has broke.try what i have just written and if that doesnt work call out a mobile mechanic who can change cable for you.without car in front of me i can only hypothasise the problem but i hope this has been of some use.
