Depending on where you purchase the serpentine belt, and whether it's a budget or lifetime version, prices range from $18 to $33.

You can replace this belt yourself.

The belt goes around, and under various pulleys on your engine. There is ONE pulley that puts tension on this belt. There is a bracket, or 'arm', that this tensioner pulley is attached to. One simply takes a 1/2 inch breaker bar, and inserts it into a 1/2 inch square hole in that bracket.
You then pull the bracket over to one side with the breaker bar, (The direction will be pulling the tensioner pulley away from the serpentine belt), and slip the serpentine belt off of the pulleys.
The belt diagram of how the belt is placed around the pulleys, should be on the fan shroud support, or under the hood.

What can I do to fix a pulley for my serpentine belt that has stopped rotating?

These pulleys have sealed bearings but they don't last forever. Buy a new one and replace it before you break your serpentine belt.

Sounds like you may have busted your Serpentine belt. The serpentine belt runs your water pump, alt, and ac. You can pick up an serpentine belt for about $35 at almost any auto parts store

How to change serpentine belt

Hello, this is an easy job. I like to remove the upper fan shroud to give me more room to work. TAKE A VERY GOOD LOOK at how the belt is routed, it looks simple but once it's off can be confusing. With a ratchet and socket or a box end wrench release the tension on the automatic belt tensioner. CAUTION don't let the wrench slip and bang your knuckles. With the tension released just remove the old belt and slowly release the tensioner. Don't just let it snap back. Place the new belt firmly and squarely in the grooves of the various pulleys and release tension on the tensioner again, then slip the belt around the final pulley and slowly release the tension again. I put the belt on the idler pulley last, (the smooth one).

Serpentine belt in a 1995 Mercury sable

I have the same car and last night my belt slipped off. The top small pulley backed it's self out. The problem is in most cars the pulleys are reverse threaded so this wont happen, in ours not so much. The pully spins loose with the turn of the belt so it has to be tightened way down. IT's a pain. Here is a diagram I found and You need a 15mm wrench, which doesn't just come in most sets. Good Luck

The book says "Using a 15 mm socket or wrench on bolt attaching drive belt tensioner pulley, rotate drive belt tensioner clockwise. Make sure spring keeper engages into slot." I would put a socket on the 15 mm pulley bolt and a long handle for leverage. Thats one tight spring.

2003 dodge minivan....belts snapped and total engine and power failure...whats needed to be replaced

I can only think of 2 belts: the timing belt and the serpentine belt. If you look on the passenger side of the engine compartment you should see a broad belt with many small grooves. Check to see if it feels like it has tension on it. If you push or pull on it you should not be able to pull out a lot of slack. If this belt checks out then you have a busted timing belt or chain, depending on the engine.
You can probably do the serpentine belt yourself with a few simple tools but Unless you're a passable shade-tree mechanic I'd let someone else do the timing belt/chain.
