SOURCE: Gearbox fault of Jaguar S Type

unfortunately when that code, and that gear box fault light comes on, its pretty much game over for the transmission. It only a matter of time before performance of the transmission gets worse and worse. BUT that transmission is VERY easy to replace, i would check out a few trustworthy independent shops to give you a better price! I am usually a die-hard dealership, having been working at this jaguar land rover dealership for the last 2 years, but you are pretty much for sure going to be a cheaper price on the labor and like i said it is a pretty easy task.

My only precaution MAKE SURE IF YOU GETTING A USED TRANSMISSION THAT YOU GET SOME TYPE OF WARRANTY ON IT. Too many times have I seen customers loose thousands of dollars paying someone to put a used engine or transmission and have it fail almost right away.

SOURCE: Trans wont shift up or down..gearbox fault light on

Hello jjames696...The gearbox fault light has come on because the transmission control module (TCM) has received a fault signal from one or both of the two trans. sensors....The Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor and/or Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor. The TCM has now defaulted to limp mode...A diagnostic scan needs to be run...An OBD II scanner will retrive a P1722 fault code, the only code in it's library for the ZF5HP24 transmission. The WDS / IDS will pull other codes not found in the standard OBDII library (dealer or good transmission shop)
When was the last time the transmission was serviced? Manual shifting will take it's toll on the fluid quickly.
The transmission is sealed, no dipstick (which i think is a bad idea) You can check the fluid level by removing a plug on the passenger side of the case, you should be able to touch the fluid with your finger. Jaguar fluid is VERY expensive, Mobil 1 synthetic will work and meets ESSO specs.
Personally...i would change fluid every 25-30k.
Hopefully all you have is a bad sensor or a stuck solenoid and no internal componet damage.
Good luck, hope this answers your question...please take time to rate my fixya reply.

SOURCE: having a gearbox fault that lights and i can't

Check the fluid level in the gearbox firstly.

Other 2 things it could be are the torque converter or slave cylider for the clutch.

Most likely it is the torque converter as the engine light is on aswell. although these may not be related. you will need to get it on a code reader, diagnostic machine to be sure.

SOURCE: gearbox fault light and cruise not available

The only thing that will cause a cruise control fault is a loose vacuum hose ussually on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body. As for the remainder, shut off the car and restart to get you home and avoid the limp home mode. That in itself is an electronic fault in the ground system. Check you coils or replace them with a new set of plugs (autolite double platinum recommendes.) Clean any grounds you may have and then start you engine. You will notice there is no problem then. Run a diagnostic tool to see if there is any fault with grounded sensors like the O2 to keep that from happening again. Don't get the tranny replaced cause thats all the dealership wants to do and charge you $5k. Its not the actual cause. Good luck and let us know if there is anything else we can do here at fixya.

Can one not fix anything inside a Subaru XV Gearbox without having to import a new one?

A bad sensor = a new gearbox? Doesn't sound right to me?

What code came on? Use an OBD scanner to pull the codes.

You could probably test the sensor yourself with a multimeter and a repair manual. The repair manual will give more information about how to test.

Jaguar s type 03 gearbox fault warning light on dashboard, gear stuck in 4, reverse engages ok, what could it be?

sounds like it is in get you home because of gearbox failure if its the early box with metal sump check selector cable adjustment it critical as the J gate micro switches and the linear switch on the side of the gearbox have to be in sync with each other. on the other hand if it is the later gearbox with plastic sump, which i suspect it will be, check it has not lost some of its oil due to leaking sump, common problem! other wise check fault codes in transmission control module, any codes relating to incorrect gear ratio means internal falure most times

Light on on dashboard:

The light refers to the automatic gearbox. It is a general warning that there could be some sort of problem. It could be anything from low oil level to gearbox failure. Get a good mechanic to service the transmission as it might be something simple like low gearbox oil.

Renault gearbox warning light on ...

There is lots of people out there that think the problem is to do with a pressure switch. In a way they are right. As the transmission fluid gets old it's viscosity and properties change. It gets grippier and allows for fluctuations in the pressure in the gearbox.

The best thing to do before sending it to an automatic transmission specialist would be to give it an oil change

it needs 3.5 litres of Type-D transmission fluid. Do not use anything else contary to what you might hear will work. I had the same problem in mine where I could neither put my foot down or remove it from the accellerator pedal without the gearbox going into limp mode.

After the oil change the gearbox has been perfect. the oil only cost $34AUD for 5 litres. Drain all the oil and place 3.5 litres in the gear box.

There is a plug with a square hole that is the filler plug on top of the gear box.

On the bottom of the gearbox there is a filler plug and if you look closely there is a hex head behind that. To drain the gearbox you must undo the outer hex head which is the drain plug/fluid level tube.

GEARBOX JUST WENT WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGNS. IS THIS NORMAL TO GO WITHOUT SOME SORT OF WARNING IS THEIR A FLAW IN THE MAKE UP OF THE SANTA FE YEAR 2005 MANUAL GEARBOX

Not normally. When you say 'gearbox', you mean the transmission and not the rear-end, right? What does it do now? Any noise? Does reverse still work?
