Which number in gm serial number is engine designation

The following link indicates where these numbers are located.

It includes an example breakdown of what the number means and that should assist in determining what number you are looking for.

The location varies by type of engine. But all are on the cylinder head block on a machined pad.

I bought a Camaro with a 383 crate motor. it has HOLLY aluminum heads. The engine identification number on the block is VO327TMM. Can anyone tell me about this motor? I no its a crate motor, thats it.

No because I don't know what camshaft is in it or what intake modes/exhaust and so on. The block number means nothing as far as HP goes, it is what goes into the block and on it that matters.

I have a 98 F150, I found this number on the left side of the block under the head. F75E_6015CA There is also a W stamped on the same side at the rear of the block. Does this number have a meaning?

Yes that number is what we call an "engineering ID" number. Any Ford dealer can tell you what it is by that number, also it may be needed for any major engine parts. "W" I think indicates it is a 351V8

Engine number

Do you mean the size of the engine? Or the stamped number on the block.

The engine size is on an identification plate usually at the rad support.
The number on the block is hidden, normally you can't see it unless you dismantle quite a bit of the surrounding parts.

If there is more information you need, you can take your VIN number off the dash and call a dealer with it. They can supply you with almost all the information about your vehicle from that number.

If the mark on the crankshaft timing pulley is aligned with the mark on the engine block, does this mean that the Number 1 cylinder is at TDC?

It means that when alligning the cylinders and after making sure the number one cylinder is at top dead center and the cam marks should be at the very top aligned with one another.

If I can help more please feel free to ask!

NUMBERS ON BLOCK

Hello there:

Casting dates are usually expressed this way, “C 18 4.” In this example, the “C” means the month of
March, “18” is the day of the month, and “4” is the last digit of the year. This last digit may mean ’64, ’
74, ’84 or ’94, so you must also check the other characteristics of the block to determine in which
decade and year it was made. Some parts have the decade and year cast on them; these identifiers
look like this: “C 18 84.” GM introduced new model years in September or October of each year, so
when you see a casting date of “L 16 7” for example, this indicates a casting date used in the 1968
model year because it translates into December 16, 1967. A 1968 model Camaro assembled on
January 6, 1968, might contain a number of parts that were cast in December, 1967. Casting dates
should precede hand-stamped engine assembly dates.

I'm russian. I've got Ford Escape XLT 2005 v6 3.0 and I can't find engine sequence/engine number/or product sequence number on the engine. Please, help me to find it.

we have the same problem here in spain with american built vehicles ,When i come to do the paperwork and their is no engine number and the spanish authorities insist on numbers on everything and three copies of it all with stamps on.So when i get a crysler gran voyager or ford mercury with no chassis number stamped in the actual chassis ,just a silly plate in the dash which means nothing here .I do a bit of doctoring before the vehicle goes for its mechanical inspection and they evan measure it for height and width and length and they look for the stamped chassis number which on all american vehicles i take to the test and they are always in the same place .Drivers side on top of suspension ,and engine number stamped on a nice area of the block, thats accessable ,if no engine number exists then use the last 6 numbers of the chassis number .----know what i mean

Can the engine serial number lead to year model identification on a GMC Jimmy?

In one word NO! The number on the block mean very little as far as the year! But GM is one of the better when it comes to swapping parts! Never heard of this before! Sure like to know what parts are not fitting?? Frankster016
