Try another, clean disc. Preferably use factory pressed cd, free of scratches. If still not playing you may try to use cleaning disc or take unit apart and clean lens. It may also need cleaning and lubrication of laser moving mechanism.
Car CD Players get dusty from road grime. Buy a CD Cleaning Disc and run it is a couple of times. The laser that reads the tracks is much lower power, and if it can't read the whole tracking system, it ejects the CD. The cleaning disc has little brushes that cleans the optic lenses.
This also happened to my 2002 WRX. I took the CD player out of the console and found a tiny spring (which I could not find) was not in its location, which would actuate the "play CD" switch inside. After a few hours I decided to reassemble the player and use it as a non-CD unit. The radio and cassette player still work, so I purchased a cassette MP3 player adapter so I can plug in my cell phone and play songlists.
If your using copies then some dvds wont read them even if the old one did, sometimes its a gamble if it reads or not, if your using a master then i would have them check it out, it may be bad or need programing, it funny because sometimes it will play a copy and sometimes not, thats what i've run into. hope this helps.
its very likley the cd is fulty,, if its been left in the sun or it got hot some home burnt cd's dont play very well in car players,, try putting a cd head cleaner in the player but if it still refuses to play this cd try another cd that will play in your home player,, if it wont play that one its likley the lazer could have lost a bit of power in the car's cd unit
I had same problem with a 2005 Envoy in Jan '09. I took it to the ex-GM dealer. He said he'd try. The unit would only play using radio. Mechanic took unit out of dash, and top off of unit. Ejected CD bu moving the eject mechanism. Replaced top and unit. Works and plays cds. Cost $25.00 And i tipped the mechanic $10.00 for his knowledge.
Run a Lens cleaning disc . Is it an in dash player or a remote(trunk) mounted unit. You should be able to google the error code to find out where the problem is. if its a remote unit your cable from the CD to your head unit could be damaged.
