The maitenance required light usually comes on when the oil change service is due, if you have recently had this done, would recommend taking to your local oil change facilty and have them reset it for you. May also want to check and see what other services are recommended by the manufacturer based on the mileage on the vehicle (this will also set the maintenance light in some cases) Hope this helps
It means you need to get your oil changed, or they didn't reset it after your last oil change.

To reset the system. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset knob. Hold down the knob for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off. If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing.

its to let you know that its almost time to change your oil. it will stay on when the car has reached 5000 miles since your last oil change or since the light was last reset.
