Brake lights run through the hazzard switch. There are known problems with this, and the multifunction switch. You may need to buy a new hazzard switch and OR the multifunction switch. Before you do that, check the pigtail that goes into the brake switch up by the fender, make sure it's not shorting out up there. Happened to me!
I have a GM as well, not a cadillac though. Anyway, I had this problem not too long ago. It turns out that I had two flasher units. One for the hazards and one for the turn signal. The one for the turn signal was bad. The flashers are reasonably cheap and easy to swap out, give it a try.
there is a separeate flasher relay for turn signals, usullay by hazzard flashers.turn on hazzards use sound to locate, turn flasher will be near.some will interchange to get you by till you can replace.
Hey HotrodHarley,
I would pull out your hazzard switch and clean it real well. the signal, brake lights are connected to the hazzard switch and if it doesn't fully disengage you wont get the brake lights or the flashers to come on. It happened to me on my 89 Raider last year.
The turn signal flasher and hazard flasher should look identical. And they should be very near to each other. While they are working you need to put your head under the dash and listen to where the "blinking" is coming from. Even if you have to feel it!
