If converter is cloged engine will have hard time getting rid of hot exhaust gasses and will have no power if it runs at all. Check for the gas that comes out - when you nail the engine lots of gas should come out - if it does not amount to much it is obstructing the flow of gasses and needs to be replaced.

My 170 sport suddenly lacks power on full throttle

Plugged catalytic converter. No exhaust out, means no air in. Pull the O2 sensor in front of the cat, if power comes back, replace the cat. It will be a bit loud, but won't hurt anything.

Extreme lack in power

If the engine is still running put lacks power, look for a restricted exhaust system. The catalytic converter can get plugged. The muffler can collapse inside. Check the air filter. If the engine wants to die, check fuel filter.

99 saturn lacks power gets worse with trip length also have a broken converter baffel

It sounds like you catalytic converter has gone bad and needs to be replaced. A bad converter can do damage to your engine due to the excessive heat generated and can burn out your exhaust valves in the heads, which would cost you a engine rebuilt. If you take to a reputable muffler shop, like midas or speedy muffler, they can have a look at it for you free of charge and can advise you if your catalytic converter has to be replaced. Good luck and hope this helps. You should notice that you loose more power when the engine has warmed up as the catalytic converter heats up due to the air flow restriction. Good luck and hope this helps.

Power Loss

If your old engine ran real bad with oil passing through your exhaust more than likely the catalytic converter is bad

Truck lacks power

Check the fuel filter (could be plugged) or it might possibly need a new catalytic converter.
