... Doctor, explores the causes of harsh shifting in automatic transmissions. ... Early diagnosis is important to ...
If it wont shift at all, its very likely computer related. Its unlikely it could be vacuum because of its age. Their is a computer for newer trans and sometimes some of the components can fail. I once bought an accord that lost 2nd and 3rd due to its computer, shifted great after i hit the junk yard. If it shifts hard though, solenoids and valve body gasket.
a number of issues. Tcc regulator bore worn out, the infamous check ball seat it hammered badly, or/and calibration issues. I have seen all three issues on the same trans - often!
Shift suddenly become very hard. When going from park to either
reverse or drive it slams into gear. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are also harsh.
All gears seems to work. Problem may be intermittent: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.
Extremely harsh shifts from P or N, normal shifts at WOT: EPC
(Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid failed. Easy fix in pan. Fix as
soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break.
No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.
Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging,
but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to
2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car
shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate
time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem
from PCM to trans.. or PCM.
you may not have trans problem at all. most of the time your motor mounts when worn out or broken can cause a hard ****. Put your car into gear with your foot on the brake and give some gas abrubtly and see if your engine jumps. do the same in reverse. remember to use the brake and have your hood open to see if your motor jumps.
Since all gears shift hard, and the transmission is in correctly (i assume) then it will be a linkage or spring type of problem in the shift mechanism or hook up to the trans. I also assume you have put back all the correct parts.... Last time i r/r a tranny that was like this, i didn't hook up the shift levers right... Rick
shifts off electric servo controlled by cars computer , see trans guy you can trust could need service ,oil and filter changed or part , like i said see one you can trust .
