Door switches are usually wired into the earthy side of the interior light and so faults there are unlikely to blow the fuse.
There used to be a school of thought that the simplest way of finding a short circuit was to bridge the fuse and look for the resulting smoke - but that was in the old days.
Today that approach just isn't safe. Today locating a short circuit involves isolating the faulty circuit/component by a process of elimination and that can be a very time-consuming and involved process.
I usually connect a high wattage bulb across the fuse terminals and then keep disconnecting stuff on those circuits until the bulb goes out.
These days for those who have the money new technology can provide the means to locate short and open circuits more quickly. Most good tool suppliers list such things.
