SOURCE: 2.0 L Timing Belt Marks

hi if its a twin cam ford engine you wont find marks on the cam pulleys.what you have to do is take off the cam cover and look at the back of the cams you will see slots in them ,what you have to do is you can buy the timing kit for the engine at the main dealers or you can make you own using a flat piece of metal 5mm thick and100 mm long this fits into the two slots at the rear of the cams to lick them in place and th crankshaft pulley mark should be in line also.best of luck.

SOURCE: how to line crank and cam for timing belt on 1988 no crank marks

Hard to explain here... but I believe that car also has the balance shaft which needs to be timed as well. The camshaft has 2 lines which line up to the top of the head, and a "up" or "top" mark at the top.
Crank is set to 0 degrees.

SOURCE: need to know where the timing marks are on cam and

Finding the timing marks is simple, it is an impression (a small arrow) on both the crank and the cam. As for the exact time set, I would refer to the owner's manual but if you are doing it off the cuff pull the number one piston top dead center, line up the rotor button with the number one piston and set crank at top dead center and cam at bottom dead center. This will be a good starting point, but the owner's manual will give you more exact instructions.

Toyota tercel 1988, when installing the distributer. How do you ensure proper timing with cam

Usually if you put the distributor back in without turning the crankshaft, you can line up the rotor with the correct plug wire. They generally will only go in two ways, on the mark or 180 degrees off.
The timing marks on the crank are used to check base timing.
If you put the dist in and then turn the crank to line up the marks on the damper, you can tell if the rotor is pointing to the correct plug wire.

I need the timing marks for the crankshaft. for a 1988 volvo 740. The timing belt broke while driving, need location of timing marks. thank you

don't panic about the marks too much, find top dead centre on cyl no 1,good chance once you have you will find something that does line up between the block/timing case and the pulley. don't forget once it is fitted to ALWAYS wind the engine by hand atleast 2 times to make sure the pistons don't hit valves before starting.

Where are the timing marks for a 1988 2.3 isuzu

The top mark is 12 o'clock on the camshaft..if you look where the screw is that is holding the camshaft on..you should see a liltte hole..and if you follow that hole..you should see a little notch on the camshaft itself...and that mark should line up with the mark that is on the backing plate..you can take a yellow crayon and mark it, or either some whiteout is good, so you can see it better..And on the Crankshaft, all you have to do is line up the crank key, with the notch that is on the front seal....Piece of cake..Goodluck..i would have sent you my diagrahm, but my scanner is not working..I hope this helps...

My 1988 subaru gl has a timeing problome need marks

In the back of the engine you will find a rubber plug that covers a hole in the bell housing. Remove the plug and on the flywheel there are timing marks. you have to turn the engine over clock wise untill you see them. There are 3 lines, line up the middle line with the pointer, put the left cam shaft sprocket mark straight down and the right cam sprocket mark straight up, and install the belts.

How do i set the timeing in my 1988 Mitsubishi Starion.

There should be timing marks or dots on each of the timing gears on the front of the engine. These marks or dots have to be lined up for the engine to be in time. The one on the top gear pointing down and the one on the bottom gear pointing up. They should line up with other.
