Dull or Dim Brake Light Repair: If your car has a dull or dim brake light it is dangerous to you and other drivers. A dim brake light is a mystery to most people because the bulb is working, just not correctly. First confirm a new and correct brake light bulb has been installed. Next, turn the ignition key to the "on" position and have a helper depress the brake pedal. With the bulb installed touch a grounded test light to the outer bulb holder ring. If the bulb brightness changes the bulb socket ground has high resistance and needs to be repaired or replaced.
Flickering Brake Light Bulb Repair: A flickering brake light bulb can be very distracting and annoying. A brake light flickers because the power or ground is being obstructed momentarily. The most common cause for this condition is a loose fitting bulb socket. To check for this condition remove the brake light bulb in question, while a helper hold their foot on the brake pedal move the bulb around slightly in the socket. If the bulb flickers replace or repair the bulb socket as needed to regain proper brake light bulb operation. If the brake light bulb socket tests ok wiggle the brake light fuse and wiring at the brake light bulb socket, brake light switch and turn signal switch (American cars). If the brake light bulb flickers repair the component or wiring as needed. Preferred Procedure: Always replace brake light bulbs with manufacturers recommend replacement bulbs. If you cannot find the correct replacement bulb part number consult an auto parts store for additional manufacturer information. Common Problems
When brake light bulbs are replaced with the incorrect bulb causing no or dim brake light operation If the brake lights stay on continuously it could mean the brake light switch has failed or an adjustment is needed.
Look up under drivers side dash on brake pedal arm. The arm should be depressing the switches slightly. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? There are small rubber nubbers, either on the switches or the arm that may have come off, and now the arm won't touch the switch, leaving the brake lights on. The rubber nubber may be laying on the floorboard.
The switch is located near the brake pedel under the dash. the pedel stem will push on the switch when you step on the brake. Just follow the pedal from the bottom to the top under the dash and you will find it. It should look like this.
Hi, the problem you are having will be with the brake light switch, it may be that its come away from the pedal or it could need replacing, to find the brake light switch all you need to do is get on your hands and knees the drivers side of the car and have a really close look at the brake pedal, now once your looking at the brake pedal follow it to the very top of the pedal and then you should see the brake light switch it should be stuck to the bracket of the brake light pedal it will be located just behind the moving part of the brake pedal.
have a look and the switch may just be hanging down and need just pushing back in place, you sohlud be able to adjust it slightly as it may just be wore so have a good look and you will see how it works its just a button that is pressed when you touch the brake pedal.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks
The bracket that holds the pedals becomes loose sometimes, letting the brake move slightly when you press the clutch. Check for that movement, there is an adjustment for the brake switch, the switch is on the brake pedal under tha dash. It can be pushed in or out which ever is necessary to get the brake lights off.

Try having someone push on brake pedal at the same time thay move the turn signal lever up and down slightly to see if your brake lights work this would tell me that you have a faulty turn signal switch because GM runs the brake lights thru the turn signal switch so they work if you are driving with your 4way flashers on.
my ford taurus did this to me too.... your car wont move out of park because it might be the neutral safety switch because your brake light connector piece might have come undone... now first off the brakes (my switch was above my brake pedal) and just make sure its clipped in and then your neutral safety switch should go of and you can put it into gear. if you cant find the brake thing to see if its unplugged just turn your key slightly on before all your dash lights come on and put the car into neutral and then start your car and you can put it into gear.
