Could possibly be a lifter tapping (Ticking) ,depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it might be time for lifters to be adjusted, most foreign overhead cam engines must have lifters adjuster periodically ,if you turn on the air its puts more of a load on the engine causing a louder sound (also check oil level an engine low on oil will start to tick too.. the more wear the engine gets the looser the lifters can get over time ,look in your service manual if you have one and see what the intervals are on lifter adjustment this can give you an idea.
possible only if
the ticking sound is coming from the top of the engine usually comes from under the vavle covers where the lifters are located,

My 2001 740i bmw makes a ticking noise when idleing and if i turn on the air conditioner it gets louder

First off, have a good look at the engine and the a/c, try to find any leaked fluids or stains, could find the problem. If you hear a hissing or wheezing sound it may simply be a gasket or tiny hole in a hose / vacuum line. Open the hood while at idle, see if you can echo locate the noise ( with and without a/c.running) Be careful to avoid the belts and fans. If you still can't locate it. The only other thing that comes to mind is the belts themselves, if one is worn of frayed it can make a noise every time it passes over a pulley. One last thought, make sure you're using the right octane gas, too low and the engine will knock and / or tick. Hope some of that helps you, Grim

I have a 1999 bmw 328i se manual it runs fine when cold but once walmed up it cuts out when i put the clutch in and some times revs up and down also recently a very quite ticking sound has started ???

the idle is the control stepper motor on the inlet manifold as it sounds like its sticking or the its not recieving the signals from the ECu also check the vacumn pipes in case one or more is perished causing it to **** in air ,as for the noise i would need my head under the bonnet and listen to know what this noise is and if its related to the idle problem

2.0 Liter, 2003 Rav4. Car had a ticking noise, Toyota replaced serptine belt and still makes ticking noise. Toyota says its lower engine rod bearings. I used stethascope and noise seems to be coming from...

big end bearings( lower engine rod bearings to confuse) knock at idle and get louder with rpm
if the noise changes with rpm and you are hearing it near the ac compressor then it could be the ac pulley bearing
test if it is the compressor by listening and then turning the ac off the pulley will still spin but the compressor stops
if the noise remains , replace the pulley bearings

My jeep is making a very loud tic noise coming from the motor...does this mean my motor is gone? How much am I looking at fixing this problem

ticking can be a few problems that are not terminal first check oil if low top off and see if noise quiets down if oil good than have oil pressure checked -may be clogging or bad oil pump-check check where the ticking is coming from if its the head area than possible need to clean repair or replace a valve train part-[clogged push rod ,bad/need adjustment rocker sticking /bent valve oil return clogging /sludge] if coming from front of engine check the pulleys and water pump or fan for damage or debris a ticking noise usually is a noise that can be repaired just need to pinpoint the location

2006 BMW 3251 loud ticking sounds from engine

this is a very common issue with any of the bmws with n52 and n52k engine,as long as oil level is ok and is being changed regularly than than a "blleding proceedure" may solve this problem, when the engine has been running long enough that it is hot run the engine at idle to 4500 rpm for 10 to 12 min to start, if is still present after this attempt again. It has been said that this could take up to 30 min at longest. The reason for the ticking noise is a very tiny air gap in the hva and or lifters, try this and if does not work than the lifters should be replaced, although this noise doesnt really hinder the performance it does take away from driving such a nice car and having a loud noise come from the engine, good luck

Air conditioner problem 2001 Dodge Pickup

Hello, It sounds like your hot/cold blend door actuator is either hanging up at times or it's loosing it's calibration range because it's starting to go bad. The ticking noise is most likely the actuator trying to close off the hot air port but is unable to stay closed allowing hot air to mix with the cold. If it's just a weak blend door actuator, it will act up more when the air is on full because it has more resistance due to air flow. If possible try to see if the times it acts up decreases when you start the A/C with low fan speed.

Ticking noise while car is running or idling

maybe is the air compresor and that's the noise that you hearing. Put the air in off if the noise stop, your problem is the compresor.
