That vintage you can use any standard transmission fluid or straight power steering fluid. The power steering system is not fussy, it just like to have fluid in it.

Hi, what kind of power steering fluid should i use on a 2004 chevy tahoe and should it be synthetic. Thanks!

  • Any decent power steering fluid will work. There is nothing super special or synthetic in requirement. Regular ATF will work OK too.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.

Which atf fluid for bmw 2001 330Ci power steering? I know it's crucial to use the exact one when adding to a transmission but does the standard Valvolene Mercon V or such work for topping up the power...

Dexron III ATF is what BMW called for in the power steering pump in these models. However, GM no longer makes a type-III ATF!

Nice thing about GM Dexron specifications is that any higher numbered fluid meets the requirements of previous, lower numbered fluids. What does this mean? Siphon out as much as the old junk as you can. Refill with Dexron III and if you cannot find that? A common on the shelf *upgraded* synthetic fluid can be found in Dexron VI that more than adequately surpasses previous Dex-III specifications. So use with confidence! Pour and forget...

Power steering fluid

I would use just power steering fluid. ATF can be used but has a tendincy to "clean out" and sometimes cleans out seals, causing it to leak.
