SOURCE: Where is the starter located on the 1999 taurus se

When you are standing in front of your car look down between the engine and the rad on the drivers side and you will barely be able to see the top of the starter bolted to the bottom of the block on your 24 valve Duratek engine. Although it is hard to see from the top of the car it is very easy to change from under the car. Jack up the front of the car on the drivers side and support it with a jack stand. Remove the black splash shield attached to the bottom of the front bumper and the 2 small bolts holding the shield to the front wheel wells. Once this is removed the starter is in plain view and easy to get at. To remove the starter first disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. At the starter you will find the red positive cable from the battery connected to the solenoid and another small wire connected to the solenoid. You will also find the battery ground cable attached to the top starter mounting stud with a nut. This ground cable is the hardest part of the starter removal. You will need 2 wrenches to get this off,1 to hold the stud from turning and another to remove the nut,but don't worry,if you can't remove the nut just break off the cable end and install a new one. Once you have removed all 3 wires mentioned all you have to do now is remove the top stud and the bottom bolt and gently pry the starter away from the block,it is held in place with 2 dowel pins. That's it,install the new starter and reattach all the cables and your ready to go. I hope this helps and good luck. Len

SOURCE: how to chg alternator on 2002 ford taurus 24v dohc

ctionsThings You'll Need

  • Flywheel holding tool
  • New alternator
  • Socket wrench set
  • Torque wrench
    • 1Determine which alternator your Ford Taurus will need. You'll want to be sure the new alternator is compatible with your Taurus's engine. Models made from 1986 to 1991 have a 2.5 L HSC, 3.0 L Vulcan or 3.8 L engine. The 2.5 L engine was dropped for 1992 to 1995 models, and post-1995 models will have a 3.0 L engine.
    • 2Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Release the tension on the accessory drive belt so that you can remove the drive belt from the pulley.
    • 3Take off the mounting bolt on the right side of the alternator with a socket wrench and remove the bracket for the power steering hose. Remove the mounting bolts on top of the alternator, the front passenger wheel and tire assembly and the front fender splash shield. Remove the alternator splash shield with a socket wrench and take off the inspection cover for the torque converter.
    • 4Mount a tool to hold the flywheel so you can remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley. Lower the alternator so you can unplug its electrical connections. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor and Oxygen sensor connector. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt and B+ connector nut to remove the alternator.
    • 5Install the new alternator assembly by reversing the above procedure. Use a torque wrench to tighten the B+ connector nut to 71 in. lbs. and the lower alternator bolt to 18 foot pounds. Torque the crankshaft pulley bolt to 74. foot pounds, the upper alternator bolts to 18 foot pounds and the nut for the power steering hose bracket to 13 foot pounds.

Where is the vss for a 1998 taurus?

It is located on top of the trans towards the passengers side towards the fire wall area, but there is a cover on the sensor, depending on which transaxle you have, the AX4S lays down towards the transaxle and the AX4N stands up on the transaxle, here are the diagrams, hope this helps. 9e31ebc4-5508-47ab-a9cc-66f64df2a423.gif acdb65d5-b3a1-4a6c-8775-722fc24d8285.gif ad2245cb-c2aa-44b2-ad15-ebec5ec9619c.gif

Are there torque specs for the transmission pan on a 1993 mercury cougar 3.8 v6

I'm sure that there are torque specs. for this. I just did both pans on my 1999 Mercury Sable with a 3.0 Duratec V6 DOHC with the AX4N transmission and both pans on that are tightened to 7-9 ft.-lbs.
I don't know if this would be the same unless it has an AX4N transmission. I hope this helps.
Good Luck!!!

Where is the speed sensor located?

There are three transmissions available in different year Windstars.95-00 had an AX4S model, depending on engine,or possibly an AX4N model. From 01-03,the 4F50N,just a later version of the AX4N was introduced. There are many variations of speed sensors depending on the year model, and engine size, and trans that was equipped at the factory. They are all located on the transaxle. The AX4S has two speed sensors, one located above the final drive assembly, mounted atop the transaxle case,in between the back side of the engine block, and the firewall of the car body.Later versions of the AX4S also carried another speed sensor in the same area, but back closer to the bellhousing, and deleted the one i just described a few sentences back.,Both versions of the AX4S carry a second speed sensor in the channel plate, mounted externally,on the driver side, near the sidecover/pan.Now onto the AX4N trans. This trans also carries a speed sensor in the channel plate, and a second one locatated atop the trans case, behind the rear of the engine block,in between the engine and firewall. The 4F50N also uses the same speed sensor arrangement as the AX4N model.Good luck.
