I have a 5 speed manual 2001 Echo, and I am noticing some noise when accelerating

I find that at times when I am either accelerating on a hill or on the highway, I get this rattling noise. For Eg. I have this one hill I that I could go up for the most part in 4th no problem and now at times I will get a rattle noise and when I downshift it goes away. Same thing when on the highway except I upshift and it goes away. Could it be the muffler??

No, it could be a clutch throw out bearing or u joint bearings.

Testimonial: "Thanks for answering, however it appeared to be related to needing cleaner gas. My partner borrowed my car and he said it was a pinging noise in certians gears and speed. He suggested to put in the highest grade gas with techron. Its all good now, just re did the plugs to and is running much better."

Yeah you have to atleast put 89 in there I notice when my friends put gas in my truck they say if they put 87 it's cheaper you get more gas but I always put 89 in my truck cause that's the kind it takes it's a little more expensive but it runs great, so thanks and God bless you

I have a rumbling noise in the front end of a 2006 Yukon Denali. it only does it when accelerating. what is the fix?

Can be many things. Check the cv joints first- will make sharp clicking noise especially when turning. Wheel bearing but it will be all the time and noise will increase with speed. Control arm bushes - shudder and noise when accelerating or when driving on road with an slight incline (up hill). If nothing obvious found take the car to an suspension specialist for evaluation and quote.

Timing chain

It could be that the timing chain is off a tooth, but you can try loosening the distributor and turning it a little and then tighten it back up again and see if it makes a difference. when you turn the distributor your engine speed should increase and you know that you are turning it the right wy. this is known as advancing your timing. if you notice no difference in the engine speed as you turn or adjust the dist. then you may need to adjust your throttle control sensor.
