it is your neutral safety switch, no car since the dawn of time will start if it thinks it might be in gear. try putting it in neutral instead of park as a short term fix, but you should get the neutral safety switch replaced, it takes about 45 min for your dealership to do. the car being a 2008, the dealer will probably do this under your new car warranty.
Most likely it's the switch on the brake pedal. You know how you have to step on the brake before you put it in gear? That switch is probably bad. Should not be difficult to fix.
