Do you notice any check engine lights coming on the dash when this happens, also has the vehicle had any recent repairs or any reason why this may be happening? Any input from you is helpful. I will check my resources and see what we can find out. Please advise

Hello Mrs Featherbottom, Thank you for taking time to go over my Q&A history. Yes, some of my recent answers have been repetitive. I learned to do this for many reasons, such as allowing me to not only reach more people needing help but to also get the information required to get the problem solved. In your instance, if you did have malfunction indicator lights illuminate on your dash they could be scanned for codes and the codes would tell us precisely what needs to be rebuilt/replaced. If there are no codes, for example, this would typically imply the the problem could be mechanical. I am only here to help.

Black smoke from exhaust but computor saying 44.5 mpg around town. 2.0ltr. mondeo deisel

Your duplicate question did not say it was a diesel.
Usually black smoke on a diesel is dirty injectors or the engine temp not reaching normal range.

Friday it sputtered and shut off 2 times the thrid time I started it I gave it some gas and it drove for a few feet then started sputtering and smoking from the right side of the engine. I pulled over...

Have the water pump checked. The bearing maybe seizing up causing the pulley to jam and smoke up the belt. Also as the motor got hot from pump not spinning, may have caused the motor to shut down as an overheating precatuion.

Smoke around belt

the smoke is coming from the belt because a part has stopped turning ...you need to check which one it is... it could be the water pump...alternator ..a/c compressor...... power steering pump or the belt tensioner.... and your going to need a new belt

Smoke around belt and sparks on Pulley holding belt

Most likely AC clutch assembly. Have it checked & unplug wires to it, if necessary, to use temporarily, so that clutch doesn't engage.
