Check the wiring on the TCC Transmission Converter Clutch solenoid at the trans and the PCM . It is possible the PCM is bad . BBB Industries online has free wiring diagrams for this model.

1998 crown victoria transmisson( over drive)

Well it may not be a big enough problem to need to replace the trans.
It could be a solenoid or something electrical.
You need to know what the trouble codes are in the computer, and you may need to have a transmission shop take a look.
What you are saying is the trans will not shift into overdrive, hitting the button turns the overdrive off.

My 2001 Ford Crown Victoria has had the check engine light on for a while, and the code came up as something to do with the fuel pump circuit. Now I've been seeing some sluggish acceleration and a kind...

Take it to a repair shop & then use the
computer to study OBD2 Systems & get
a cheap code reader

Look at a fuse, they do not fix anything
& hardy ever blow.

When you say check light has been on for awhile
Are you not aware of why the dash light come on?
They have been on all vehicles for 31 years now

Any dash light is a System Malfunction,& you need to
check for codes within a couple of days or stop using
the car, each & every time, unless you understand the
current OBD2 Systems & have at least a code reader

Over drive light always blink and trans wont shift in to 3,4 gear

Hi Rod, Your vehicle needs to be taken to a shop who have the correct scan tool for your vehicle. The scan will display what part is defective. The flashing light shows the need for attention and where the attention is required. As an example; if the engine check light is flashing that unit will be the centre of the investigation. When the overdrive light flashes, the problem is with the gearbox. Regards Johngee10

My overdrive light is flashing on my 2005 crown vic,i can only get to about 45-55 mph.

If your overdrive light is flashing, it is trying to tell you that there is a transmission failure. You will have to scan your powertrain control module to find out what is wrong.

2003 Crown Victoria the overdrive light is flashing and the car will not go over 20 miles per hr

Your Ford is in 'limp mode,' which is designed to protect the engine/transmission from damage when the car's computer detects a problem. You are going to have to check for any codes stored in the cars computer to help determine what is wrong. Most major auto parts stores will scan for trouble codes for free, they will plug a hand held scanner into the cars port, and read any codes. Since the overdrive light is flashing, it is obviously a transmission related problem.
