SOURCE: 2001 Jaguar XJ8 Idles rough while sitting

o2 sensors often cause a rough idle at stand still. Previously my xj8 had crank case ventilation (pvc valve essentially) issues that caused the check engine w/ restricted performance. I noticed a severe drop in gas mileage as well. Jaguar dealer fixed my problems in a few hours and it was surprisingly cheap. Its worth taking it to advanced or auto zone to see what the computer says. Then decide if you want to shell out for a dealer fix or if you can tackle it yourself. BTW, just to justify myself this is my third jaguar. I have a '94 xj6 with a chevy 350 inside it, previously owned a 95 XJ6 and currently have the xj8. They are wonderful cars if you can put up with their rough times.

SOURCE: check engine light is on,display says restricted performance

Anything can cause the check engine light to go on from a loose gas cap, to a transmission issue. When the onboard computer detects an issue, it will restrict performance so as to not damage the engine any further. An Oil change won't affect this light. The only way to determine the cause of the light is to have the computer scanned with an OBD-II tool (Autozone does this for free) to determine the codes and cause for the light. You can also clear the light with the OBD-II tool, but if the problem is still there, the light will just come back on

Rent a scanner, read out any code(s), and pursue to repairs. It may be as simple as bad spark plugs and wiring, or worse, fuel problems from the injectors back to the fuel tank. A worn O2 sensor can cause improper fuel/air problems.

SOURCE: have a 2000 jaguar s

You have an exposed electrical source and/or a fan belt that is slipping when it get wets. When the belt slips, voltage drops and ignition is very voltage sensitive. Check you fan belt if it seems loose and or glazed (smooth)

You have a fault condition in the the engine management system - get the codes read to indicate where the fault lies ... It is probably just a faulty sensor as this is the most common cause of check engine warnings. The restricted performance condition is meant to protect the engine or components from damage, so don't panic - get the codes read - its probably not as bad as you expect. hope this helps - good luck.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
It is safe to drive and I assume that you are on limp mode. This is to restrict the speed to avoid further damage to the engine. You can be facing some sensor issues like the MAF (mass air flow) sensor or TPS (throttle position sensor). If one of these sensor is faulty the car tends to run sluggish, run rough or may even result to stalling.

Have the sensors replaced and observe how it goes. This can fix the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Expedition running rough on acceleration, it's a 5.4L.

running rough means it is misfiring.does it run smoothly without load or at idle?If it does then better check you fuel pressure as the engine needs more fuel under load.

2006 4.7 engine runs rough stalls out

If there is a check engine light, take it to a place like autozone or napa, they will scan it for free. However if its doggy and stalling without a check engine light, check your fuel pressure. Newer vehicles are very finiky about requirig the proper ammount of fuel pressure to operate. If its low check your fuel filter, dirty filters restrict flow. if you replace your filter and still low pressure, then I hate to say it but you have a faulty fuel pump (EXPEN$IVE)

Random multiple misfirings

Here is a list of possible causes. You should not drive the vehicle if the check engine light is flashing all the time, you can cause even more damage. It could pay to have a professional find the real cause.

Spark plugs that are incorrect for the application, cracked, improperly gaped or worn can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An IC module that failed to correctly control the ignition coil(s) will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
Poor connections, broken wiring or wiring that has shorts to ground can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times. NOTE: Check connectors that might be pulled apart as the engine flexes or wires that short to ground as they pass near brackets or shorts to ground on the exhaust manifold.
Fuel injector(s) that are shorted, plugged or partially restricted can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An ignition coil(s) that has low output, corrosion on the coil tower(s), is carbon tracked or arcs to ground will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
A PCM that failed to properly control the injector or ignition timing will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.

I have a 93 escort and it lost power every once in a while and ran rough at other times. The solution was to replace the oxygen sensor. It has run excellant for the last 45,000 miles now.
