While it is idling or low RPMs it will shut off, but start right back up. Also, while at normal speeds it will act like it's shutting down only to continue along. I suspect fuel pump or filter. I've found information on location of external fuel filters and internal in tank filters. Where is mine located and I'm on the right track?
When it shuts off at idle, can you still hear the humming of the fuel pump?
Testimonial: "I was have to say No because it completely shuts down. When at cruising speed it also knocks cruise off and RPMs drops and jumps back when gas is pressed."

the fuel filter is located inside the tank it is part of the fuel pump assembly. Some have two filters you can replace one without replacing the whole unit It is located at the bottom of the pump. Did you check you see if there is a warranty or recall? You have to drop the fuel trank to replace the filter or the pump. You need to take the fuel pressure to make sure you have a fuel problem.
SOURCE: engine dies in stop and
1999 300M 150,000 Miles
Car dies when coming off acceleration or at idle in traffic or at a stop. I can watch the Tach go to 0 RPM, some times it will restart immediately other times it is hard to start, so far I have always been able to re-start it and Drive on. Does anybody have verified fix for this issue, I have seen posts saying can and crank sensor, throttle body, EGR, and many more ideas... Do not really want to just start replacing parts with the hope that I eventually get a fix. Help...
Here are the most common causes of idle surge, rough idle esp when cold and stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

The Car is a 2003 Sebring LXi 2.7L Auto 144K miles. There is an external fuel filter. Not the problem.
