Make sure it's in park, or neutral if manual tranny. Make sure battery connections are tight and clean. Check starter relay and check ignition switch electrical portion to ensure it's getting current from the battery to the relay.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Sedona wont start but i can hear starter.

if the starter is revving very slowly it is the battery, charge battery. if not, It can be three things happing. 1 no spark 2 no fuel 3 no crank signal or the car computer is bad- you will need to unplug one of the spark wires and remove the spark plug and put the spark plug in the spark plug wire boot, and touch the spark plug on any metal on the car and have some start the car. donot touch the spark plug itself and see if there is a spark. if spark is bright, then it is not spark plug and wires but if no or spark is not bright, check the spark plug wires by applying a little bit of water on the spark plug wire and take a 12v test light, connect the clap to ground and and have some one to crank the vehicle, touch allover the spark plug wires with the tip of the test light, if you see spark, replace the wires and change the plugs.. they are not good. if spark is present, check for fuel by removing any one of the spark plugs and see if it is wet. if wet fuel pump is ok but if not go look for the fuel pump fuse and relay. is fuse blown, replace, check the relay resistor with a volt meter. it should be around 40 to 80 ohm. if everything is good from this point check the fuel pump itself by disconnecting the connector to the pump and apply 12v and ground using jumper wires or some wires to the fuel pump if you donot hear the pump, replace pump. if you, the crank signal or computer may be the problem

SOURCE: the only fault code on 2001 kia sephia is P0422,

P0422 - Catalyst below threshold.

Catalytic converter is clogged or out of medium.

Replace it.

ACTUAL DIAGNOSTIC:

Fault Code Definition
Code P0422 indicates that the Bank 1 Main Catalytic Converter's emissions efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable limit. This threshold is tracked by a Catalyst Monitoring Oxygen Sensor located on or near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

Symptoms

* Check Engine Light will illuminate
* In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed

Common Problems That Trigger the P0422 Code

* Defective Catalytic Converter
* Engine misfires have damaged the Catalytic Converter
* Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

* Oxygen Sensors are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
* Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
* Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

Starting problems

If you turn the key and you hear the starter cranking the engine but the engine will not start than you need to see if you are missing fuel or spark as a first step. If you turn the key and you can not hear the starter turn the engine over than the first step is to check to make sure there is power on the small wire at the starter with the key in the crank position. If there is power replace the starter.

My 2001 Kia Sephia suddenly won't start.

even if your starter is out it would still click when you tried starting the car. so try replacing your battery first thats the most common problem for random starting. also look under the car you may need to jack it up. look under the intake manifold that is where the starter is check to see that everything is hooked correctly and that all the bolts are tightend securley and not loose on one side.

2001 Kia Sephia, WAS running, but missing when taking off.

I had this problem after the engine was replaced on my 2001 Sephia, it's a sendor on the engine. This sensor is actually turning the engine off and on while driving... my mechanic replaced it with the one from my old engine and it is fine now
