You need to find out why it shuts off. Immediately as it fails test for spark at plugs. OK? next use fuel pressure gauge to see if pressure drops just before it dies. No spark means bad coil/ignition module, crank/cam sensor. Bad fuel pressure = bad pump, filter, relay, regulator.

Why won't my car pass emissions test even if the check engine light isn't on??

the computer meters fuel based on a signal from the coolant temperature sensor. The check engine light sometimes does not come on when the sensor fails. If the sensor is causing your problem you will have a strong odor of gasoline when the car starts,It will be slow to start the first time, turn it off and it will start right up. lol

My hyundai sata fe 2005. was driving and sudenly lost all gears. no warning. foward and reverse. puleed to side of road. shut off checked for leaks none. turned back on drove fine for a few hundred feet....

Some vehicles are made with built in safety features to either not allow the vehicle to start or move if something serious is wrong. Don't know about the exhaust emission but could be in computer software to disable in case of excess emission. Could just be a bad O2 sensor. Need to fix the emission code problem, reboot the computer and try again.

Battery was out of 99 ford taurus for 2 month now cant get reading from obd told to drive car 4/5 days how many mile do i need to dive car to reset obd for emission test

It has nothing to do with Miles and EVERYTHING to do with Drive Cycles.. There are certain things that must be tested. Within the first 10 miles, generally speaking you are going to complete the Drive Cycle requirements for ALL the tests except for 2-3. The EVAP/ O2 normally the last ones to get cleared.

Your Vehicle is a 1999 which means that you can pass the I/M test with 2 lights "NOT READY". The EVAP is going to take longer than a few miles, you must fill up your car with fuel above the 3/4 mark and then it has to go below I believe it is 1/2.

But if there are 2 Not Ready's... it will pass

I need to find out how to get the ready codes for my 2002 sentra. The emissions place reset the the Check Engine light, they told me to drive it 80 miles, I did, then they toldd me 1 sensor was not...

They should have been able to do it in the shop. Some of the sensors will reset everytime you turn off the car so that may well be whats happening. Try another emission place and see what they say but do not tell them you were "just at another place"

On-board computer not ready for emission inspection 02 ford taurus. replaced battery 1 month ago

This is the biggest flaw in emissions testing. It takes 4 tanks of fuel and 1000 miles of wasteful driving to reset the computer on the FORD TAURUS (I've got a 2000). So much for pollution control!

Emissions test comes up not ready - can't pass inspection

Under the hood, there is a fuse block. I believe it is on the driver's side of your vehicle. Open that box, and pull the "ECU" fuse. Leave the fuse out for at least 5 minutes. Put the fuse back in, start the car, and let it idle for at least another 5 minutes. Do not drive the car, touch the gas, or even look at the gas pedal for these 5 minutes, as the ECU is remapping itself. This will properly reset the ecu and clear the codes. After this you may drive the car.

DRIVING SEQUENCE FOR 200O GRAND VITARA TO RESET COMPUTER

Hi:

We failed our emissions test as well, and went to the dealer to get the o2 sensor fixed. When I was paying the cashier told me that after such work, the car needs to drive for a while so the computer can confirm there are no problems, otherwise it sends out a code saying it's not ready to be checked. I was told 2 or three days.
