No engine of any make or model has spark plugs under the valve covers. Spark plug wires have one end connected to the coil and the other end connects to the spark plug.

You get to them from the top. Follow the wires to where they are connected and pull them off. The spark plug is under there. I am assuming you have a 6 cylinder so there will be 6 wires.

How to change spark plugs

The spark plugs are located under the four spark plug wires that go through the middle of the valve cover on top of the engine. With a twisting motion, remove the plug wires from the spark plugs. Then using a 5/8 inch spark plug socket and inch extension on a 3/8 inch ratchet, remove the spark plugs. Gap the new plugs to the correct gap (located on the label on the underside of the hood), and in stall into the holes in the valve cover using only your hand to get them started, then tightening with the ratchet. Then reinstall the wires back to their original locations, and you are finished.....

I cant find the spark plugs on my 1991 kia sportage

If your sportage has the 4 cylinder engine, there is a plastic cover over the engine that is held down by 4 bolts, one at each corner. Remove the bolts with a 10mm socket and lift he cover off and lay it aside. You will see the spark plug wires and the 4 holes where the spark plugs are. The spark plugs are about 4 inches down into the holes. Be careful removing the spark plug wires, they will be tight, and you will have to rotate them back and forth while pulling up to get them loose.

Oil in the sparkplug hole

O-ring seal for spark plug are leaking. Located under valve cover.
To replace them,
1.unplug spark plug wire from spark plug.
2.remove valve on top of engine, by loosing the 5(10mm) bolts and disconnecting air hose.
you might have to use a pry bar to pry valve cover off.
3. flip cover upside down and you'll see that there's one o-ring per spark plug hole. remove them and install new one. You might want to replace valve cover gasket too.

I have a 2000 kia sprtage. i need to replace the spark plugs. They appear to be hidden. How do i get to them?

There is a tunnel intake tube, remove it,but there is a black plastic vacuum reservoir on the back connected to it,remove it first,it is not easy to do,after these are out of the way,the black plastic cover that goes down the middle of the valve cover has the coils, two of them, and two wires, and four spark plugs under it.If this was at all helpful, please rate, and thank you.
