After much research & frustration, I learned this seems to be a fairly common problem with the Freestar. (along with many other problems.) We replaced the Brake Pressure Sensor and it corrected the cruise control problem and the Traction Control light. I think the part was about $30. & we were able to replace it ourselves. Hope this helps!
not being informed if it is auto or manual, here are some of the items that control the cruise control
brake pedal sensor ,
clutch pedal sensor,
vehicle speed sensor
engine ignition control module , tacho ,
vehicle speed --will disconnect if the road speed is below setting minimum speed
ratio changing
bad cruise control switch
wiring and connections
ecm problems
problem cruise control module
Hi, This needs a new cruise control switch fitting not a job for the faint hearted there are a lot of wires that need to be connected properly, recommend any good vehicle electrics company or cruise control specialist is best. Please give feedback at [email protected] Thanks, Malcolm Campbell.
I have a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer AWD Premier V6 4.0L and the fix was simple for me. My problem was the cruise control working off and on randomly. Part number SW-6349 3L3Z-9F924-AB. I put this on myself and it worked like a charm.
I thought this year of Santa Fe had a 100k Warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Even if it's not under warranty, take it and get it fixed! This is dangerous to use with the cruise control!! Do not use the Cruise Control until you get this fixed. It sounds like a bad speedomoter sensor, and that is confusing the Cruise Control. Either your speedometer is going to stop working altogether, or your going to RAM someone from behind going at a DANGEROUS rate of speed. Take it and get it fixed, and do not use the Cruise Control until it is fixed.
Check your vacuum hose routing to the cruise control servo, it's a hard plastic hose and sometimes breaks. Does your vents work properly? An indication that you have a vacuum leak.
i had this problem and fixed it. The switch on the brake pedal was slightly off adjustment and was detecting as though the brake was always on, disengaging the cruise control. I pulled it apart and put it back together and made sure it was working ok, now my cruise control is working ok.
