Can i program the pcm myslef? If so, what do I need.

Did you have the PCM programmed to the vehicle? Sounds like it's in theft protection. The PCM needs to be programmed to the VIN of the vehicle

What make , model an year vehicle ? Most of the PCM/ECM could be functioning properly an you could still need a new one . Most thing's the PCM/ECM control are turned on an off by what is called a driver (transistor is all it is ) . ignition Coils are turned on an off by drivers , so are fuel injectors , evap emission components - purge solenoid , vent solenoids , A/C compressor clutch relay is turned on by a driver inside the PCM . An replacing a PCM would need a trip to the dealer an have it configured an programmed . The Anti-theft system key would need to be programmed in the new PCM .

Do you know that a replacement ECM would need programming ? The new service PCM will not be programmed. You must program the new PCM. DTC P0602 indicates the EEPROM is not programmed or has malfunctioned.
There are no user serviceable parts in this PCM. The PCM should never be opened for any reason.
Important: When replacing the production PCM with a service PCM (controller), it is important to transfer the broadcast code and production PCM number to the service PCM label. Do not record this information on the PCM cover. Transfer allows positive identification of PCM parts throughout the service life of the vehicle.

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Remove the left sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side in Body Front End.
Remove the air cleaner assembly cover and lift the PCM from the assembly.
Disconnect the harness connectors from the PCM.
Remove the PCM from the engine compartment.

The pcm is just under the battery on the left side of the engine compartment. The PCM need to be calibrated to the truck and motor. If you just put it in the motor may not start. Read over the information I have attached before you do this. Ken Powertrain Control Module Replacement Service of the powertrain control module (PCM) should consist of either replacement of the PCM or electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) programming. If diagnostic procedures call for the PCM to be replaced, the replacement PCM should be checked to ensure that the correct part is being used. If the correct part is being used, remove the faulty PCM and install the new service PCM.
Important: To prevent internal PCM damage, the ignition must be OFF when disconnecting or reconnecting power to the PCM. Inspect the PCM module connector gaskets when diagnosing or replacing the PCM. Ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the PCM. • The replacement PCM must be programmed.

Removal Procedure

Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

1. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.

You'll have to take it to the dealer for that , needs programming .
EEPROM Programming

1. Set-up - Ensure that the following conditions have been met:

The battery is fully charged and battery charger is not connected.

The ignition is ON.

The Techline equipment cable connection at the DLC is secure.


2. Program the PCM using the latest software matching the vehicle. Refer to up-to-date Techline equipment users instructions.
3. If the PCM fails to program, proceed as follows:

Ensure that all PCM connections are OK.

Check the Techline equipment for the latest software version.

Attempt to program the PCM. If the PCM still cannot be programmed properly, replace the PCM. You must program the replacement PCM.

Changing the PCM its self is relatively simple, however the PCM can only be programmed using A Chrysler scan tool and software called a DRB3. I highly recommend taking the vehicle to a Chrysler dealership to have this work done.

Note: If the vehicle runs now and you change the PCM yourself, it will not run until the PCM is programmed.

Yes you must have the PCM programed and also you will need 2 keys to program to the theft system. This will need to be performed by a Ford dealer. You should expect to pay $70-$100 dollars for this service

yes you can you can either buy one at autozone, orileys, etc or buy one from a junk yard not hard to change out, if you buy a new one it will come with instructions! You could also buy one from the saturn dealer/shop!

The new PCM on these has to be programmed either by the people that built it or by someone who has the capability to reprogram it [usually a dealership]. The computer can be programmed before it is installed and usually they'll need the VIN#, mileage, etc to do this properly. I don't believe the vehicle will run if you put in an unprogrammed PCM. It's very rare for one of these PCM's to fail so make sure that you haven't overlooked some other problem that is mimicing a bad ECM before ordering one as they are quite expensive.
