SOURCE: high idling at low temp.

Hi,

Offhand, yes this would be normal. The high idle is brought about by the auto choke whose purpose is to hasten the reaching of operating temperature of the engine. The fact that the idle RPM goes down after some time is a good indicator, it tells us that the auto choke is working.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge stratus engine temperature gauge spikes occasionally

Look for a loose connection to the temperature sender unit on the motor.
If all connections OK, you may need a new temp sender unit.

SOURCE: COBALT TEMP GAUGE READS 250 DEGREES BUT ENGINE

Probably the temp gauge itself. Most of the time it doesn't have a problem but sometimes they do go bad. Did the car ever overheat prior to changing the solenoid?

SOURCE: Code P0118 on Audi A4 - Related to Ignition Coil Problem?

Hi, the sensor on the engine (right at the rear end of the cylinder head) has two separate outputs. One drives the temperature gauge and the other provides data for the engine control unit. The output for the engine control unit is almost certainly faulty and the sensor will need to be replaced. It isn't an expensive item and's not time consuming to replace (1/2 hr) - so you could ask Audi to do it for you when they replace the ignition coils.
Hope that helps Matt..

What could be wrong when the a/c works fine then blows hot and temp gauge runs hot and see steam from engine?

Hello friend.
Steam from engine is usually blown head gasket or hairline fracture of piston liner letting water go where it should not and causing boiling of the water.. This will give similar problems.
The piston liner problem got me going once , Absolutly fine when engine idling for HOURS but when put under load and driven , the Temp FLEW up and steam came out,. Needs a workshop or good DIY Mechanic to take a look.at the engine. Probably nothing to do with AirCon.

Temperature gauge

check the circuit to the tem p sender unit by removing the wire at the sender and turning on the ignition touch the wire to the head . The gauge should got o hot. This indicates that the wire is ok . Remove and replace the sender unit as it is shorting out inside and is not showing a resistance. The higher resistance __cold water --the lower the gauge reading. The lower resistance the more current allowed through so the gauge goes up

What make 2003 chevy malibu temp hand goes up and down.when it goes up it make the car seem to be running hot than it goes back down and than the car runs better

The most common reason would be a bad thermostat or the car is low on coolant, check the coolant level make sure the engine is cool and check the level, if the level is full then i would say to replace the thermsostant, the thermostat is what regulates the flow when it reaches a certain temp, also take note that the fans on these type cars dont come on until they reach a high temp, the gauge on them reaches close to 3quaters the way on the gauge before the fans run, good day.

Temp gauge goes high. Radiator leak just the

It could well be a faulty thermostat- test or replace same.
Could also be a blocked radiator core, - check coolant or airflow is not restricted,
Ensure any radiator leaks are repaired,
Ensure coolant level is correct, without airlocks - bleed as necessary on re-fill,
Check operation of cooling fan - ensure fan runs at appropriate engine temperature - if not check sensor switch and associated relay operation.
Thermostat is located at the end of top radiator hose where it connects to engine housing.

Tempreture gauge drops to cold and car stops

Sounds like faulty engine temp sensor. When it drops to cold, the engine control unit picks this up and alters the fuel mixture accordingly. The ECU will be making it a very rich fuel mixture for cold starting, hence very poor running when engine is hot.

M reg 1.6 zetec escort high emissions

you say the temp gauge doesn,t work could it be possible the thermostat is stuck open which would mean the engines running cold which means the auto choke won,t knock off normally if you short the temp switch wire to ground the gauge goes straight over to hot if it does,nt then the gauge is faulty but its usually the switch as far as the high c/o it could be as stated above or some thing as simple as an air cleaner c/o should be under 2.5 these carbs weren,t the best when they came out which type is it if its the v v i would get it overhauled
