How many miles are on this vehicle? Has the problem got worse over time? Doe it happen only in one direction at approximately the same place? It sounds like a rack and pinion problem. If any of the above are your problem, draining a pint of your power steering fluid and adding some fluid with PTFE will probably help if not fix the problem.

I have a 2013 ford f150 and it is alarming and dashboard reads service advance trac setting and then the truck turns off and wont restart until it sits for several minutes then it will go for maybe 20 feet...

The AdvanceTrac system counteracts oversteering and understeering by reducing power and/or applying brakes to specific wheels. This is done by the use of electronic sensors that communicate with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) regarding steering performance and stability in adverse weather conditions. The are several components that are necessary for the AdvanceTrac system to work properly.
Anti-Lock Brake System-When/if the brakes lock up, this may cause a loss of control and the vehicle may slide. The anti-lock brake system prevents this from happening by preventing the brakes from locking up, as well as preventing oversteering and/or understeering when the vehicle starts to slide.
Traction Control System-The traction control system works by reducing engine speed and determining which wheel to apply brake pressure to in order to prevent the vehicle from sliding.
Electronic Sensors-The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives information from electronic sensors regarding the rotational speed of each wheel, the horizontal motion of the vehicle, and the vertical motion of the vehicle.
If the "service AdvanceTrac" warning indicator light comes on in the dashboard, this could be an indication of several issues.
  • A faulty wheel-speed sensor
  • A faulty steering-angle sensor
  • A faulty rotational-speed sensor
  • An issue with the steering rack
  • Something that is lodged in one of the wheels
  • The AdvanceTrac system needs to be reprogrammed

I drive 2002 yukon denali and was making a sharp turn when the front wheels lock. They wont turn, i finally got them to turn enough to back up out of the way. It looks like it has enough ps fluid

a broken CV or UJ on a drive shaft can cause the steering to lock up , jack up front end and check for damage to the drive shaft's rubber covers to the drive joints, push/pull wheels in and out , as in steering motion while spinning wheel and feel if there is anything restricting a smoth movement , hope this helps

Key will not turn in ignition

I have occasionally had the problem where the key won't turn. It usually happens when the steering wheel lock mechanism prevents wheel from turning enough to allow the key to turn. It sounds like a similar issue for you. Perhaps something is not aligned properly when they re-installed the wheel. I'd take it back to the shop that serviced the steering wheel and explain the problem.

Why would my 92 tf 2 WD rodeo's steering lock up in motion ?

straight up do not drive the vehicle if you mean the steering lock is engaging as you are driving or in motion!!!!!!!!!!! something has bad ly gone wrong . I would sudjest that you have some one qualified fix it. however a quick check by taking the plastic surround off that covers behind steering wheel , covers the ignition barrel the screws are located under side and there possibally 6 or so cant quite remember , undo all of those and the plastic separates topside goes up and bottom down. with that off check its operation and if you think that you can see the problem . a faulty locking pin or one that works replace the whole ignition barrel . it seriously could create a accident. hopefully you get the problem behind you , and this was some help to you.

Steering wheel locks up while driving

If the power steering pump were going bad you'd get a whining noise when turning at slow speeds. You'll also find it hard to turn the wheel. A slipping belt will give you the same indications. Now if the lock pin is engaging the lock plate while you're in motion that would indicate a loose pin.

Sometimes my 1998 Ram 2500 will not start unless I wriggle the steering wheel while turning key to "start" position. Is this an ignition interlock problem? What's the fix?

It sounds like a bad electrical connection on the ignition switch (black cap) for the starter circuit (worn or burnt contacts) New electrical switch required, it is separate from the steering lock, it is clipped or screwed onto back of lock and just plugs into the wiring. Hope that helps.

Key wouldnt go in 04 buick rendev. finally got the key in, now it wont turn. whats going on!?

when you shut it off where the wheels turned to one side or the other-sometimes this puts pressure on the steering locking system-try pulling side to side in a wiggling motion on the steering wheel while trying to turn the key-hope this works-cheers Denny

Hyundai i10 Steering not rotating. It seems to be locked. Pls help. The wheels were tilted to other end so, I tried to straighten by turning the steering even before starting the engine. But when I start...

Faulty Steering?
It was not until later in the day as I check the Internet for "hyundai i10" "steering locking" that I started to worry once again. I found reviews and comments mentioning that the i10 had problems with its power steering system which sometimes caused locking while the car was in motion! This post about hyundai i10 steering locking is what really caused me to get worried again. I still puzzled a bit and not sure if that was the same case as mine as in my case the locking took place while the car was at a stand still and turned off. I'll try to follow up on this carefully to see where it goes. Perhaps I should mention this issue to the agency as they service my car after the first 1000 miles (or first month of driving it).
Update: After describing the problem on an Arabic cars forum I learned that nothing was wrong with my i10. The steering locking was normal since I tried to move the steering too much while the car was turned off. As for the key not turning in with ease, the reason was that I must have moved the steering slightly after inserting the key and before turning the key. This is the method used for turning the key whenever the steering has locked. Man, I just love those forums and i LOVE the Internet.
