Remove nuts holding master cylinder onto mount. Remove fluid lines carefully, bench bleed new master cylinder then install lines, install mounting nuts then bleed system again applying pressure to clutch pedal several times until no air is seen purging out.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 kia optima with manual transmission. Clutch master cylinder loosing fluid. Petal won't engage clutch arm into slave cylinder. Slow to change gears.

I'd probably start by replacing the clutch master cylinder and bleeding the line to the slave cylinder.

2004 Audi A4 1.8t I cant change gears. Dead clutch pedal...is it the master cylinder? but I have a feeling it is the slave cylinder maybe even the disk. What would someone reccomend I replace?

Power steering reservoir is NOT linked to the clutch.

The BRAKE Fluid Reservoir (in plenum below windscreen) is shared with the Clutch Master Cylinder.
So, check the Brake Fluid Reservoir.

If that remains full, you can essentially rule out a leak.
If it is low (but hopefully not empty), that could indicate a clutch system leak, as it should feed off the reservoir at a higher level than the braking system (brakes are critical obviously, clutch is not). Either cylinder can leak.

If the reservoir is empty, you could have a problem with the brakes, and the clutch is just a symptom.

There are also mechanical connections between the master cylinder and the pedal, and the slave cylinder and the clutch. You can check the master cylinder to pedal linkage up under the dash.

  • you need to do some checks(1) check clutch master cylinder container if fluid level is ok if not( empty)check for leaks at slave cylinder and master cylinder if either of the two is leaking change them

Check the hydraulic clutch operation. This is a clutch master cylinder with a reservoir on the firewall, and a clutch slave cylinder down on the bell housing of the transmission, with a steel tube running from the master to the slave cylinder. When clutch pedal is depressed, hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) is forced from the master to the slave. The slave cylinder should push out a little plunger that contacts the clutch fork lever-pushing it forward to engage the clutch.
Add brake fluid to the reservoir if needed. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder: if it moves little, or not enough, try bleeding the slave from the bleeder valve. They are bled just like brakes. If bleeding doesn't help, your clutch master or the slave may need replacing. The master cylinder, like a brake master, has internal seals that hold hydraulic pressure, so force can be applied to the plunger on the slave cylinder.

How to change a clutch master cylinder on a 2006 toyota tacoma

remove line from the side of clutch master cylinder two bolts or nuts on firewall inside vehicle is a pin on the upper side of clutch remove and pull old unit out bench bleed new master by filling and pressing in on the piston of the master cylinder. if you dont have a hose fitting dont bench bleed bleed it in vehicle( this method takes longer) install back in vehicle and hook it all back up torque bolts to 25 ft lbs then bleed the slve cylinder from under vehicle near back of motor just like bleeding brakes pump up hold and release the line pressure by opening valve on slave cylinder.

The Clutch Master Cylinder is located on the firewall inside the engine bay, and usually next to the brake master cylinder as the brake and clutch pedals are usually very close to one another. The Clutch Master Cylinder is responsible for transferring the clutch pedal pressure hydraulically to the slave cylinder to release the clutch. You can tell when your clutch master cylinder is dying or needs repair when you depress your clutch pedal and it slowly sinks to the floor and does not return. Since the entire system is a hydraulic one, the master cylinder also has a reservoir that holds the fluid used in the clutch hydraulic system. If you decide to change the clutch master cylinder it is a good idea to also get a clutch slave cylinder at the same time, as both units typically fail around the same time. When replacing your master or slave cylinder, its always a good idea to flush your entire system to prevent water buildup or air pockets from being present when you are driving. Also always keep an eye on the fluid in your reservoir, dirty fluid may mean that the internal seals are allowing dirt and contaminants into your master cylinder.

Probably not. Bleeding clutch slave cylinders is tricky because you cant "pump it up". The master cylinder has no static valve so the best way to bleed the slave cyl. is to use gravity. Fill the master cylinder reservoir and open the bleed valve on the slave cyl. Allow fluid to drip into an open can until there's no trace of air. Close bleed valve and try clutch. If still no pedal, repeat the process. This is quite an acceptable procedure.

The clutch is stuck to the floor bord and i cant shift

you may have a faulty clutch master cylinder or faulty clutch slave cylinder- leaking clutch fluid. most of the time both are replaced at the same time which should be recomended by your mechanic, the bolts to the master cylinder are very hard to get to and require the right tool.
you should be able to move car forward by selecting 1st then cranking engine till it starts, gear changes while driving are hard but not impossible. i recommend a tow truck to a local repairer.
