I have tried getting spark this way , even tried new wires, any other ideas ?

Find power and chase it, still crank it in the dark and let me know

If there is power to the coil and none coming out, is there a wire coming out of the coil direct to ground, this would kill the spark else the coil you put in is bad, it happened to me once.

Hi, 2 wires into coil, both have power, I held the coil wire while cranking and no spark, not even a tingle

  • david simmons Jun 04, 2015

A coil has a primary and secondary circuit. Taking the amperage within the 12 volt dc and stepping up the voltage so as to get a spark, so no spark why? no coil, please get another coil and respond, i will expect a response, please david The only other thing could be that there is no pulse in your coil input, in other words on/off. To get a spark from a coil there has to be a magnet passing by a coil of wire , it cannot just sit there in front of the coil of wire ,you say there is power to the coil it has to be on/off not constant

Why does the engine crank but no spark

Bad coil, ignition module, crank or cam sensor.

Died while driving, cranks, but no spark.

one of the reasons that engine stop while being driven is a failed timing belt or chain
that affects the cam/crank position sensors and so there is no spark allowed
so run the fault codes first and check that the cam shaft is turning when it is cranking

1989 jeep grand wagoneer 360 how do i test bad crankshaft position sensor

double posted, now with 360, 5.9L V8 fact.
great.
and has no such sensor.
its a CARB car
with ICM , spark magic box. , NO ECU /PCM brain in car
there for no CKP sensors.. sorry?

if you dont know what is there, photo it and post it
so others can see what is missing or wrong, from factory day 1 build.

i google for you
rockauto shows no such part in 360
alldata.com same
hell. even the 90s the same.
see it here.
all schematics

if engine wont start. even with test fuel, check spark
see the spark section below, under ignition.

http://oljeep.com/gw/elec/GW_wiring-1990.html

the distributor has cam sensor. not crank.
it called today, CMP, cam sensor
this sensor sends signals to the ICM the ICM then makes spark
buy driving the coil,
the CMP is more like Points, simulation, and lasts near for ever.

the 89 4L has a CKP (crank sensor) and is know to fail on brand new cars. (you need to tune it to make work , back in 88/89) at flywheel.
ask me how in know./././??

360 spark
CMP >>>>> ICM>>>> COIL>>> Dizzy cap>>> spark plugs.
this is the chain of events.
the DIZZY does the ADVANCING with ICM. totally. on this car.

Why did you change the coils ??????? Do you know how to test electrical circuits with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Check for B+ voltage at the ignition module ,connector 2 pin C this is a pink wire . Check for a good ground at connector 2 pin A ,black with white stripe . Plus watch as many videos from this guy as you can on GM igntion systems .Your vehicle has two crankshaft position sensors .

96 chevy cavalier had oil pressure issue. Later found it was due to bad crankshaft. Drive it to neighbors house and we pulled the engine and replaces the crank now once installed car is not getting any...

I ASSUME its a 2.2l VIN "4"? Better be SURE you put in the correct crank. Different years have different tone wheels for the Crank Sensor. If it ran before, it should run now. I think 2 wire connector is for power to coils Power to Pink wire comes from IGN fuse A. Pink is 12V, Black is ground, 6 wire plug is for ICM.(bolted to base of coil pack) cant bench test anything. Should be a code 42 if cranked for 5 seconds and no start if its a CKP issue.
