That usually happens if you're in too high a gear. If it also seems to accelerate slowly, you may have a fouled plug or other cause of a dead cylinder.

SOURCE: my 2005 nissan maxima jerks and races. Is that my

I have encountered this problem before. Your transmission is probably the aisin warner 5550. These 5 speed automatic transmissions were used in some maximas from 2004 - 2006. The short answer is you will at least need a new & updated valve body. Because the valve bodies tend to have that problem, other internal transmission damage may result. I rebuilt and updated a valve body for a customer and the max ran fine after that. Even now months later, my customer's transmission is still running great and it has never jerked again. I already wrote a long post with pictures on enginegeeks.com. If you want to see it go here : http://www.enginegeeks.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3

It's not the motor mounts and a transmission flush won't do the trick. These transmissions **** HARD!

2005 Nissan Altima jerks on Drive or Reverse for a second when hot.

Check for loss engine motor mounts and transmission mount
Also check the air tube (TOP AND BOTTOM) for hairline crack.

A loss motor mount can cause excessive vibration and damage the air inlet tube.

Car jerking at low speeds and idle

Not fuel filter. Is your engine light on? Could be accelerator pedal position sensor. Does it do it only when you are accelerating?

Almost sounds like fuel filter. Check with your local auto shop. They should carry the part and show you where it is located on your vehicle. Good luck.

Car jerks on freeway and engine shuts off.

It sounds like your Mass Air Flow Sensor is faulty. These sensors will normal show fault when cruising at highway speeds causing the vehicle to almost stall or stall. Replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor with a known good one and test drive the vehicle. This will most likely repair your concern.

My car cuts off at times right after it is cranked. At other times when stopped at a stop light but starts back up. Also, when driving it is hesitating and jerking.

It sounds like you have a bad MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor). This is in your air inlet tube, pull this out and check to see if there is any corrosion on it. If is one that has a coiled exposed wire, then ensure that the wire is not broke.
