Why won't it start?

Have 2004 mustang, lights work, radio works but won't start, sometimes the radio will reset like when you take battery out. The theft light is flashing when car is off.

Since the radio is resetting, i would first check the battery terminals. the radio has to power inputs, so if its resetting then your losing both at the same time. one wire more or less comes directly from battery, its the memory wire to get a presets and times.

Matt is close here. You seem to indicate that you have a bad connection. The most likely point is one of the 2 connections to the battery itself. To verify a poor connection , do this: With the headlights on, have a friend watch the headlights while you crank the engine for a few seconds. If the lights go out, repair the poor connection.

If the starter turns over but it does not start itself then yo do not have enough electricity in the battery to cause a spark from the spark plugs.

The red theft light will flash when off , showing system is working ! When you turn the key to start the car an the light flashes faster an the engine doesn't crank over , then there is a problem with ant-theft system . Now does it do that ?

SOURCE: 1996 ford explorer anti theft system

Yes I agree it's the 'smart key'. Normally when you buy an explorer new, you will get 3 keys. 1 of the keys is a valet key.
If you were to copy another key that has a smart chip (transponder) in it, the new key won't work until you 'program' the third (new) key. To program it you need the original 2 keys that work.
The only other thing could be that there was a remote start in the vehicle and there could be something wrong with the module that bypasses the transponder. If there is a remote start in the vehicle you might be lucky to some extent if it still works.
If you move the shifter hard and it worked before, like you said, there could also be damage to the wires that goto the key cylinder, the reciever for the transponder in the key. Try having someone hold the key in start and use the tilt wheel, that too will tell you theres damaged wires if it starts.
Unfortunately you probably will have to bring the vehicle to a ford dealer to get additional keys programmed or the damaged part replaced.
It shouldn't cost too, too much. Just be glad you don't have a Saab, replacement key's are $145 Ea!
If your inclined, you can dissassemble the plastic shroud around the steering column and look for damaged wires coming from the black ring around the key down the the connector under the dash.

First I would try to disconnect the negative cable and then reconnect the cable. See if it resets.

SOURCE: anti theft dash light is blinking on my 1998 rodeo

I'm assuming its an original alarm or system that came from factory or dealer. When the light blinks is because the alarm is activated. Look underneath the radio the alarm brain might be there. There will be a label on it saying alarm or security system etc. Disconnect the harness to it and try operating your vehicle.

Car wont start has charged battery lights and radio come on new starter. drainging battery even though the battery is fully charged its reading its not tempature gauge reading hot but its not runn

If the problem began when (or soon after) installing the new starter, start checking there. Ensure that all cables to the starter are tight. As a second possibility, if the new starter was actually a rebuilt replacement, the solenoid could be faulty. (I went through three rebuilt starters on my son's truck until we got one that worked properly.)

2004 mustang won't start because of anti theft system

Did you check the battery of the car (maybe loose cable)? but if it just happen suddenly, it might be your altenator that wasn't charging your battery. I think once there's enough power gone through the car then your anti-theft system should work as normal again.

I have a 2004 Nissan Quest. First, the speakers started popping off, then radio wouldn't work anymore. We pulled the fuse under the hood and reinserted it. When it sparks radio will come back on....

if you are having radio issues where you have to mess with the fuse to make it work i would say it is the culprit for the battery draw, a lot of radios trigger the eject when power is reconnected for the memory wire, that is not a problem with the radio.
try unplugging the radio and see if that fixes the battery draw.

2004 Ford Mustang will not start battery is ok?

Did you check the alternator? It is possible this may be the issue. If you can get someone to do test on your starter and alternator, such as Napa, Autozone, etc, this will help detect the problem for free.
